Wayne Brady, the host of Let’s Make A Deal and one of the improv geniuses on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, recently opened up about his longtime struggle with depression. In a new interview, he talks about this huge secret he’s been hiding.
Wayne Brady — Depression Struggle Revealed On ‘Entertainment Tonight’
“Some days you just can’t move,” Wayne told Entertainment Tonight. “You’re like, ‘I am just going to sit right here and I want to wallow in this. As much as it hurts, I am going to sit right here because this is what I deserve. This is what I deserve, so I am going to sit here because I am that horrible of a person.”
Wayne, 42, also talked about how his funny nature masks his inner pains. “People are like, ‘Wayne Brady’s always happy!'” he said. “No I’m not always happy. Because I’m human.”
Wayne did manage to find some humor in the situation, though. He talked about how he managed to call out of work on down days. “Sorry bro… you tell those people to keep the banana outfit on and tell the chick dressed as the horseradish to just chill. But I’m at home in my room,” he joked.
Wayne Brady’s Turning Point
Wayne realized he needed help when he was sitting alone in his room, having a breakdown on his 42nd birthday.
Wayne was super close to another comedian, who suffered from the same illness, but unfortunately didn’t beat it. Robin Williams was often seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway?. and he shared several skits with Wayne. When the news of Robin’s tragic suicide broke, Wayne tweeted: “Depression is real. God Bless Him and his family.”
We’re glad to know that Wayne is in therapy and he’s slowly recovering. What do you think about this, Hollywood Lifers?
