Brittany Maynard Dead: Terminally Ill Newlywed Ends Her Own Life
Brittany ended her life just one day after the original date she had planned, Nov. 1.
Brittany’s story made waves across the world as she defended her decision to die on her own terms. Brittany was an advocate for the end-of-life organization Compassion & Choices. The organization aims to protect and expand options at the end of life.
Before she ended her life, Brittany wrote a heartfelt message to her family and friends on Facebook. Read it here:
“Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more. The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!”
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Diaz. They met in April 2007 and married in Sept. 2012.
In one of last things she had wanted to do before her death, Brittany visited the Grand Canyon. Brittany and her family enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and spent quality time together.
These memories will live on forever.
Our thoughts go out to Brittany’s family and friends during this difficult time.
