Still trying to get over the plethora of emotions following the Oct. 21st episode of ‘Sons of Anarchy?’ Me too. Luckily, the show’s director, Paris Barclay spoke out in a new interview just how and why that crazy last scene happened — and what’s next.
Sons of Anarchy is getting darker and darker and darker . . . if that’s even possible. Once again, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and the rest of SAMCRO received some harsh news in the shape of a box during the recent episode. So, how will they cope? (Don’t read on if you haven’t yet seen the Oct. 21 episode, Greensleeves.)
‘Sons of Anarchy’: Bobby’s Eyeball Gets Ripped Out, What’s Next?
Quick recap of last night’s bloody events: Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) literally got his eye gauged out by August Marks (Billy Brown), and the club was informed in probably the most poetic way ever.
August’s head of security, Moses (Mathew St. Patrick), politely delivered a box to the guys. Jax opened it to see (in this order): Bobby’s SAMCRO patch; an iPad with a video ready to be played of Bobby getting attacked and stabbed in the eye; and then, his eye in a container. Yes. An eyeball.
So, does that mean that Bobby died? Well, not exactly.
“I would say Bobby is in mortal danger, and unless Jax does the absolutely right thing, bad things can happen to Bobby,” Director Paris Barclay told EW.com. “I’m hopeful Jax will make the right decision, but I am very, very concerned at this point. It all will depend on Jax.”
That doesn’t sound so good.
So About That Eyeball
So, we know that Jax has to make a huge move, because who knows if the club can really go on without Bobby. Plus, the cast doesn’t want to go on without Mark! During the episode, the reaction we all saw from SAMCRO (like Chibs almost falling over) was actually somewhat real, Paris said.
“They didn’t see the video before we actually filmed the scene,” Paris revealed. “We don’t do that because they’re super method actors, but just because we wanted to be filming when they actually saw it for the first time, so they could actually live in their first response to seeing Bobby having his eye gouged out. Tommy Flanagan (who plays Chibs) just broke down, and some of it is in the episode.”
“Sometimes you can’t recreate the authentic reaction that these actors who’ve bonded so closely together, not just as actors but as friends, have. Sometimes you just need to be rolling the cameras,” he added — and we definitely see that friendship. “I think what you’re seeing is a large part of the first take, and then we did a reverse where we show Jax walking away, which was done later. So Tommy’s reaction is his reaction to seeing the video for the first time.”
Well, I’d say breaking down over seeing one of your friends eyeballs in a jar, is an understandable reaction. What do you think is next for Bobby, HollywoodLifers? Will Jax save him? Will he survive the series? Let us know!
