War Machine, aka Jon Koppenhaver, tried to kill himself in his Las Vegas jail cell on Oct. 14, but a corrections officer stopped him. The 32-year-old former MMA fighter is currently awaiting trial for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, porn star Christy Mack.
War Machine Suicide Attempt: He Tried To Kill Himself In Jail Cell
Sheriff Douglas C. Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a press release to HollywoodLife.com:
On October 14, 2014, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a corrections officer was conducting routine walk-throughs inside the Clark County Detention Center when he noticed inmate Jonathan Koppenhaver in a seated position on the floor with his feet resting on the bunk. The officer also noticed what appeared to be a torn piece of linen around his neck that was tied to the leg of his bunk. He called several times to Koppenhaver but he did not respond. The officer proceeded into the cell while continuously asking Koppenhaver if he could hear him. The officer quickly observed that Koppenhaver was struggling to breathe and proceeded to cut the ligature from Koppenhaver’s neck. Additional officers arrived to assist and continued to check Koppenhaver for response.Koppenhaver’s breathing became less strained and he started to respond to them by attempting to speak.Medical personnel arrived and began to assess Koppenhaver. It was determined Koppenhaver’s vitals had stabilized and was cleared at approximately 9:45 p.m. Koppenhaver was moved to medical isolation cell where he was placed on suicide watch. Officers also located what appeared to be a suicide letter inside Kopenhavrer’s cell. Crime Scene Analysts also responded to document the scene before it was cleaned and placed back in service.

The suicide note isn’t War Machine’s first shocking jailhouse letter.
The ex-MMA fighter allegedly wrote a friend to express his regret about his alleged attack on Christy but it’s not what you might expect: “Even if I wasn’t ambushed [by Christy’s friend Corey Thomas], they still would have got what they deserved! In Texas you could have shot them both and got off with that ‘passion crime’ s**t,” the letter obtained by TMZ reads.
