This is such a blow to the comedy community. Jan Hooks, former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member, has died at just 57 on Oct. 9 following an illness.
This is so, so sad. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jan Hooks has passed away at the age of 57, TMZ is reporting. There are not yet many details surrounding her death, but the outlet is reporting that Jan passed following a “serious illness.”

Jan’s tenure on SNL ran from 1986 to 1991, having started the same year as fellow comedy legends Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman. She also starred alongside Kevin Nealon, Anthony Michael Hall, Mike Myers, and more.

Her most memorable character was Candy Sweeney, one half of “The Sweeney Sisters.” Her stable of impressions included Hillary Clinton, Diane Sawyer, Kathie Lee Gifford, Sinead O’Connor, and many more.
Jan decided to leave the show after the stress of performing live became too much, after which she joined CBS’ Designing Women for its final two seasons.
Jan Hooks Most Recently Starred In ’30 Rock’
She would go on to make several appearances in comedy TV and film, most notably on 3rd Rock From The Sun as Vicki Dubcek, for which Jan earned an Emmy nomination in 1998.
Most recently, Jan played Verna Maroney, mother to Jane Krakowski‘s Jenna Maroney. She was an absolute standout during her few performances, and she will be sorely missed.
