Teresa and Joe Giudice sat down with Andy Cohen for a special episode of ‘WWHL’ where the reality star revealed that she is surprised that she will be serving jail time saying, ‘I thought my lawyer was going to fight for me.’
It sounds like Teresa Giudice‘s 15-month prison sentence took both her and husband, Joe Giudice, 42, by complete surprise. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star revealed on the Oct. 6, episode of Watch What Happens Live that when she accepted a plea bargain, she was under the assumption that it included no jail time saying, ” I didn’t understand that part.”
Teresa Joe Giudice ‘WWHL’ — Give First Interview Post Sentencing
Teresa and Joe were on hand to answer all of Andy Cohen‘s questions following their sentencing. When Andy asked how the couple felt after hearing their sentencing Joe said, “I was devastated. I felt like I got him in the back of the neck.”
“I was so nervous that I was shaking, my nerves were pulling,” Teresa said. “At one point I couldn’t move my hands, my nerves were shot. I’ve had sleepless nights. I was shocked, I mean it was very unexpected, I really don’t know what to say.”
Joe is set to serve 41 months behind bars, but when asked how he was feeling about the sentence, he seems to have come to terms with the length of time. “I think it was a little high, I didn’t think I would get that much.” Joe said. “But it is what it is.”
Teresa admitted that her main concern is leaving her four beautiful daughters. “I’m frightened, scared. I mean I can’t even imagine not being there for them, they need me,” she said. “They need their mom. It’s not the same with a father, a mom is a mom.”
Shockingly, Teresa admitted that when she and her legal team accepted her plea bargain, she was not aware that she would be serving jail time. “I didn’t understand that part. I don’t know, I thought my lawyer was going to fight for me, that’s what lawyers do,” she claimed. “That’s why you hire an attorney, you put it in their hands. I’ve always followed their direction, I’m not trying to hide anything.”
Joe was shocked when he heard the length of Teresa’s sentence admitting that allowing her to avoid jail time was why he plead guilty to the numerous charges. “I expected me, but I didn’t expect her. I took full responsibility for everything.”
Andy asked Joe how Teresa became involved with his illegal financial activities. Joe said, “They (the bank) were handing me the paper work, whatever the papers were. She had better credit, she has never been to a closing. Basically I would get the paperwork, sign it and it would be done.”
Teresa And Joe Reveal The Night After They Found Out Their Sentencing
When Joe and Teresa returned home from court Teresa said, “the whole family was there, friends and it was just hard. Just walking in, I couldn’t wait to see my daughters and my parents, my mom started crying.”
The couple also revealed that they have yet to tell their other children besides Gia just yet, but they suspect that Gabriella, 10, might know something.
While things may be rough, Teresa did admit that they could have been worse and for that she is thankful for the judge. “She could have taken my yesterday or taken us both at the same time,” Teresa revealed. “A lot of the things she said yesterday really hit home and really bothered me. I’m just going to take it and become a better person.”
“I’m more scared for my wife than me. If you stick me with a knife right now I probably wouldn’t feel it. I don’t want her to go to jail, she don’t deserve to go,” Joe said.
While Joe may be nervous for his wife, Teresa remained a pillar of strength. “I’m going to do fine. I’m just going to slick my hair back,” she said. “I just think about my daughters, that’s all I think about.”
