Roman Reigns: WWE Wrestler Undergoes Emergency Surgery — New Details

Wrestling superstar, Roman Reigns underwent emergency hernia surgery on Sept. 20! WWE.com reports that Roman is expected to make a full recovery and should be able to resume physical activity in 4-6 weeks!

On Sept. 20, wrestling icon, Roman Reigns, 29, underwent emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia. According to WWE, he is expected to make a full recovery, but unfortunately had to miss out on his scheduled Sept. 21, Night Of Champions fight against Seth Rollins.

Roman Reigns Surgery — Expected To Make A Full Recovery

WWE spoke to physician Dr. Chris Amann about Roman’s current condition. “This wasn’t related to a specific injury that occurred in the ring. Roman has had a pre-existing hernia for some time, which unfortunately had become acutely painful, which led to him going to the emergency room in Nashville.”

“He was found to have a large hernia that was unable to be reduced, which means pushed back into the abdominal cavity,” Dr. Chris said. “As a result, it was necessary to perform an emergent operation to open up the hernia sac and try and push it back into the abdominal cavity.”

The Dr. revealed that the surgery was a big success and that they placed a mesh over where the hernia had occurred to make sure that in the future this problem does not happen again.

“Roman has been transferred to the recovery room and is doing quite well. The plan is to keep him overnight, give him IV antibiotics to prevent infection and make sure the intestinal function returns to normal before discharging him from the hospital. If everything goes well, that should be [Sunday],” Dr. Chris said.

“Most of the time, the recovery time for something like this in terms of returning to physical activity is between four and six weeks,” Dr. Chris revealed. “This was a pretty significant hernia, so it will probably be closer to six weeks.”

Luckily it seems that Roman is in good spirits despite having to miss the fight! He took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support!
