It was obvious at the 2014 MTV VMAs that pop superstar Katy Perry doesn’t quite know her fellow artists, including the all girl group, Fifth Harmony.
Katy Perry, 29, was a little taken off guard at the 2014 MTV VMAs when they announced that Fifth Harmony had won the award for “Artist to Watch.” Clearly, Katy hasn’t been keeping up to date on her X Factor winners. Watch her reaction below!
Katy Perry Disses Fifth Harmony At VMAs
Fifth Harmony, consisting of members Ally Brooke Hernandez, 21, Normani Hamilton, 18, Dinah Jane Hansen, 17, Camila Cabello, 17, and Lauren Jauregui, 18,were first-time nominees at the MTV VMAs and beat out Sam Smith, who just so happened to be sitting next to Katy Perry.
But, Katy didn’t seem to know that this band even existed. The camera caught the “Dark Horse” singer mouthing the words, “Who are they” to Sam after the announcement of the winner for “Artist to Watch” award.
Ouch. Maybe Katy was just trying to be supportive to Sam at the time, because he lost. See it here:
Didn’t Katy know that these talented girls rose to fame after being signed to Simon Cowell‘s Syco Music and Epic Records following their appearance on X Factor back in 2012? And have since topped the charts with numerous hit singles?
Fifth Harmony Has Gained Worldwide Fame After ‘X Factor’
These X Factor finalists stand out as one of few successful all-girl pop groups these days and have gained worldwide fame even though they only finished third on the singing reality show.
Their single, “Miss Movin’ On,” shot the band to charting status. The hit song made the Billboard 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA in 2013. Not bad for a band that Katy Perry didn’t know.
The young girl group was on their way to the airport when they got the news of the nomination. Member Ally Brooke told USA Today, “Normani (Hamilton) was actually asleep, so we had to wake her up and tell her. She was really excited and then she went back to sleep.”
Aw, that’s so sweet. Congratulations girls, you all deserved it!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers, was Katy Perry dissing Fifth Harmony? Do you think she wanted Sam Smith to take home the award? Let us know!
