Katy Perry’s VMA Date Riff Raff
Katy always manages to make a statement! Her amazing video wasn’t the only thing that made waves though, Katy and Riff Raff arrived on the carpet just moments before the awards show started — they certainly know how to make an entrance!
Here’s 5 things you need to know about Riff Raff:
1. He has always looked up to Vanilla Ice — even after it stopped being cool!
Riff Raff (real name, Horst Christian Simco) first became enamored with Vanilla Ice back in the early 90s. According to LA Weekly, though he looked up to the fellow rapper, he lacked his charisma during his younger years — a far cry from today where the rapper is known for being extremely outgoing and hilarious! His family members even described him as being quiet!
2. He is a huge basketball fan
During an interview with Slam, the rapper opened up about his love of basketball. “Man, I’ve been hooping since I was a kid. That’s what I know best, to hoop. I need to get back in shape so I can try out for the Hornets,” he said.
“I need to be in all the celebrity games, but unless people don’t see that you got skills, nobody’s gonna know!” He loves the sport so much that he is even working on creating his own line of sneakers, “They’re gonna be some real, custom shoes that you gotta order ‘em or you gotta catch ‘em when they come out.”
3. He is a member of comedy hip-hop troop, “Three Loco”
The group formed in 2011, and is made up of Riff Raff, comedian, Andy Milonakis and Simon Rex ( Dirt Nasty). All three members are veterans of MTV. Riff was on the second season of the show, From G’s to Gents, Dirt Nasty was a video jockey for the network during the 90s and Andy had the wildly popular sketch comedy series, The Andy Milonakis Show.
So far the three amigos have released their EP with eight tracks on it, called “¡Three Loco!” While they are focusing on music, Andy and Riff have both voiced that they would like to have a show or movie that features the trio.
4. Sued Spring Breakers creators for 10 million
Back in 2013, the Houston rapper was upset when he did not receive compensation for James Franco’s alleged portrayal of him as the character, “Alien,” in the hit film, Spring Breakers. He told TMZ, “I haven’t been compensated for the Spring Breakers interactment [sic] with the James Franco and whatnot. We’re seeking eight to 10 million right now. And what not.”
He told the site the reason behind his legal action, “It’s like if I have a front yard. And you’re planting soil and you’re planting trees and building peaches and houses and selling parking lots on my property … then I deserve to be compensated for some portion of that money.” The case was dropped in September 2013, and Riff did not receive compensation.
5. Riff Raff plans to go country
While he may be known as a rapper, Riff definitely has some plans to shake up his career. According to TMZ he has already recorded a song called, “Take U Away” under the name of Jody Highroller. He told the site, “I love country music … I’m good at it and it’s a good fit.”
