The biggest award of the night went to Miley Cyrus at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on August 24, 2014 for “Wrecking Ball.” Although Miley‘s nude video, which she won for, was shocking, the moment that took our breath away was when she dedicated her award to homeless youth in America. Way to go, Miley!
Congrats, Miley! The superstar won for Video of the Year and had some stiff competition.
The other nominates for the biggest award of the night were “Drunk In Love” by Beyonce and Jay Z, “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea, “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “Chandelier” by Sia.
Jimmy Fallon presented the award to Miley in a hilarious introduction, which included a “Hug Cam” video, panning over the star-studded audience, but the moment that really had our emotions going was when Miley let a young man named Jesse accept her award for her.
Jesse accepted the award, as Miley stood on the side, crying.
Jesse told the audience that he is part of the “1.6 million runaways and homeless youth” in the country. “I have survived in shelters all over the city…I have the same dreams that have brought many of you here tonight.”
He said that Los Angeles has one of the biggest homeless populations in the country, and then told everyone how they could make a chance: “If you want to make a powerful change in the world, please go to Miley’s Facebook.”
