So sad. Diem Brown, one of the stars of MTV’s ‘The Challenge,’ was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. This is her third courageous battle with cancer.
The amount of strength and grace Diem Brown, 32, has displayed since she was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer 9 years ago is astounding. The reality star is now battling cancer for a third time after being diagnosed with colon cancer while filming a new reality show.
Diem Brown Battling Colon Cancer
Diem has battled ovarian cancer twice and was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, People confirms.
The reality star collapsed while filming the reality show and was airlifted to New York to undergo emergency surgery on Aug. 17, the outlet reports.
“Doctors found one tumor blocking her colon completely so they had to do emergency surgery that evening to remove the blockage,” Diem’s sister Megan told the magazine. “They were able to remove the mass, but once they were inside they found out there were multiple tumors.”
Diem had a second emergency surgery three days later after the first operation caused an infection in her abdomen, People reports. The 32-year-old is now in the ICU in stable condition and will stay for approximately two weeks.
“The second surgery was two steps back,” Megan said. “But hopefully in the next few weeks she’ll be well enough to start chemo.”
“She’s in and out,” Megan continued. “She’s on a lot of medication but every once and awhile you’ll see her spirit, the light back in her eyes.”
Diem is best known for her role on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge. She was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer at just 23 years old. She had to have one ovary, several lymph nodes and a portion of her fallopian tube removed. Her ovarian cancer returned in 2012, but she has remained strong through it all.
Her sister said Diem is “such a fighter. She’s tough as nails. This is the third time she’s had to deal with this and she’s ready for it. It’s definitely an uphill battle, but I know if anybody can do it it’s her.”
We wish Diem all the best in her recovery. She is such a remarkable woman and serves as an inspiration to us all.
