Creating a red carpet dress should be a piece of cake for these designers — but when Heidi is the client everyone begins to unravel and the tears begin to flow! Warning: don’t read on if you don’t want to know who was sent home!
Having the opportunity to see your dress rock the red carpet on a famous face is quite the honor — and that’s what the contestants are competing for this week! The designers quickly recognize what an amazing opportunity the challenge is, especially because it could give them a wide amount of exposure — and can help put their personal brand on the map! Even Tim Gunn seems beyond thrilled as he greets the designers and calls Heidi a “magnet” on the red carpet.
‘Project Runway’ Recap — Season 13 Episode 5:
Heidi Klum is very clear about one thing — she does not want to end up on the worst dressed list. To make sure everyone is on the right track, she is going to make the rounds in the workroom. Each designer gets a $250 budget and has one day to craft an “elegant and sophisticated” look designed with Heidi in mind that also stays true to the designer.
Make It Work:
The claws quickly come out in the workroom. Korina is quick to express the fact that she thinks black was a basic choice — and she thinks it is going to be a mistake for most designers! Korina, on the other hand, selected a dark teal and snakeskin to craft her red carpet design — let’s see how this works out. (Those in snakeskin houses probably shouldn’t throw stones).
Alexander is quick to call Mitchell’s look tacky — and he also questions whether or not he has any taste at all!
Heidi enters the workroom and she doesn’t hold back. From critiquing the color to demanding more va-va-voom, she isn’t shy — and who could blame her! She will be wearing one of these dresses, after all. Heidi’s style is “fearless, fashion-forward, and unexpected” — but can the designers craft a look for the major model?
Amanda’s interesting collar and print is well-received by Heidi and although Sean has found himself at the bottom of the list for the past few challenges, Heidi is instantly intrigued by the blue fringe gown he’s creating — and he’s thrilled that his frock was well received.
While Heidi sings them praises, the rest of the visit really isn’t all that positive for the majority of the designers as she quickly fires off her critiques.
Heidi Klum Returns — A Second Chance?
Although Korina thought she had it all figured out with her “green” dress, Heidi called the color “sad” and said “it does not look elegant.”
Just as the designers are freaking out, Heidi makes an unannounced second appearance in the workroom — and she admits that she really wasn’t happy with what the contestants have come up with. As a result, the designers will be given $100 and another chance to visit Mood to try to salvage their designs — now this second chance will definitely come in handy.
While most designers are rolling with it, Korina seems to be unraveling as she complains about the challenge — that definitely isn’t the best way for her to use her time. Seven designers head back to Mood.
Although being able to start from scratch seems appealing, it also means that a few designers will be working with less time — and it is definitely evident as some of the dresses come down the runway.
In the end, it proves to be Sean’s week — and he says he is in shock! To go from barely staying in the competition to winning a challenge of such magnitude is amazing — it looks like a little fringe goes a long way on the runway!
While Sean totally wowed the judges, unfortunately the same can’t be said for Christina, Mitchell, and Korina, who round out the bottom three. While Christina tried to start fresh, her second dress was just as disastrous as the first — it was a red hot revealing mess!
Christina and Mitchell get sent home and Korina is safe, however, being so close to getting sent home definitely served as a reality check for the designer.
What do you think? Were you happy with the results?
