Just minutes after giving a speech about the vicious beheading of American journalist James Foley, President Obama returned to the golf course, and his decision has infuriated many Americans.
American citizens are angry with President Obama, 53, following his speech concerning the execution of American journalist James Foley, 35, by a member of the ISIS militant group. Almost immediately after his speech to Americans, the President walked back onto a Martha’s Vineyard golf course for another round.
James Foley: Citizens Angry At President Obama For Golfing After ISIS Speech
President Obama addressed the nation about the terrible execution of James Foley on Aug. 20, but teed off at Farm Neck Golf Course on Martha’s Vineyard minutes after telling the world that “when people harm Americans, anywhere, we do what’s necessary to see that justice is done.”
American citizens and TV commentators were infuriated by the President’s decision, and sounded off in tweets and on-air.
President #Obama really loves golf, I wish he loved running this country as much.

Hey, President Obama, talking about something, then going to a country club to play golf won’t solve any problems. #TheMoreYouKnow

I wonder if President Obama would order the destruction of ISIS if they were taking over golf courses…

You know things are bad in America when the people aren’t behind their president. Obama doesn’t even care anymore, he just wants 2 play golf

President Obama says ISIS needs to be destroyed, didn’t offer a plan to do so, left & went straight to the golf course. This is our leader.

Television commentators didn’t hold back on their fury towards the President. ABC News’ political director Rick Klein told FOX host Greta van Susteren that the White House doesn’t care of the “optics” of situations like this and “the president himself clearly doesn’t … care about the way it looks,” according the Daily Mail.
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters also sounded off on Aug. 20 about the situation on the Fox News Channel.
“There is no way the president should be stupid enough to go play golf’ after such a somber speech,” Ralph said, according to Daily Mail. “Not only did he insult the Foley family; he sent a message to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (the leader of ISIS) and all of the other jihadi terrorist militants – now soldiers of a jihadi army – that he doesn’t take it all seriously.”
In addition, news of a failed rescue attempt of James and other hostages has attracted more criticism to President Obama’s decision to play golf after his speech concerning James’ beheading. Following the speech, the White House released a statement on the rescue attempt.
“This operation involved air and ground components and was focused on a particular captor network within ISIL [also known as ISIS and IS],” the White House said in a statement on Aug. 20.
“Unfortunately, the mission was not successful because the hostages were not present at the targeted location.”
James’ parents also held a press conference on Aug. 20 to address the news of their son’s death. You can watch the press conference here. James’ mom, Diane, released a heartfelt statement on Facebook on Aug. 19, pleading for the lives of other American hostages.
Our thoughts go out to James’ family and friends during this difficult time.
