After her parents and four siblings were shot dead by her estranged uncle, Cassidy Stay found strength in her favorite book ‘Harry Potter’ — even quoting it at a memorial. In return, J.K. Rowling wrote her a handwritten letter from Dumbledore!
Cassidy Stay, 15, received a wonderful gift from her favorite author, J.K. Rowling, just weeks after surviving the brutal slaying of her entire family, including her four younger siblings. The Harry Potter author sent Cassidy a handwritten letter from Dumbledore, the character she quoted while remember her family at a memorial just three days after they were killed.
J.K. Rowling Sends Cassidy Stay Heartfelt Letter From Dumbledore
Cassidy Stay may be a hero in our eyes, but she has her own hero: J.K. Rowling.
On July 13, Cassidy addressed a crowd full of people who had gathered together to remember her family: parents Stephen, 39, and Katie, 34, as well as her siblings Bryan, 14, Emily, 9, Rebecca, 7, and Zach, 4.
Cassidy remembered her family the best way she knew how — by quoting her favorite book, Harry Potter’s The Prisoner of Azkaban.
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest times, if one only remembers to turn on the light,” Cassidy stated during her emotional speech.
Now, in response to her bravery, author J.K. Rowling penned a personal, touching letter written in purple ink — significant to fans who have read the books — in the voice of her character, Dumbledore.
“We can confirm that JK Rowling was in touch with Cassidy Stay, however, the contents of the letter remain private,” a rep for the author said, keeping the details of Dumbledore’s letter under lock and key.
Along with the letter Cassidy received a wand, an acceptance letter to the School of Hogwarts, and many other themed items that would please any Potterhead.
This is all thanks to efforts of Harry Potter fans, who started an online campaign for J.K. to meet Cassidy after she bravely quoted the book in her family’s honor.
In fact, even though the fans are thrilled over the gift Cassidy received, they are still holding out hope that one day soon she will be able to meet the author!
