Such sad news. Laura Plimpton, Martha Stewart‘s little sister died tragically on August 5, at the age of 59, after suffering from a brain aneurysm. Martha, 73, took to her blog to share the terrible news, and to shed light on Laura, who was “beloved by all.”
Laura was the youngest of the six Kostyra siblings. While the sisters may have had a bit of an age gap, they were extremely close, Laura even worked for the mogul for 25 years.
According to the NYDailyNews, Laura began working for Martha when she was just 33, after her first husband passed away. In 2004, Laura spoke with Larry King, and opened up about how grateful she was for Martha’s generosity during her time of need.
“Sadly, my first husband passed away and left me with two young children. And I was just in shock. The rug was pulled out from under me,” she said.“She bought me a house to live in, so that my kids could go to a nice school, and how generous is that?”
Martha took to her site, The Martha Blog to share that the day she passed away started off like any other. “She woke up Monday morning at 5:00 A.M. to do her daily one hour of elliptical and weight training. She made coffee for her husband Randy and they completed the New York Times crossword puzzle together. Then she took a shower and suddenly felt ill and called for Randy’s help.”
Martha wrote, “She was rushed to the hospital where they said she had suffered a massive brain aneurysm. Laura left a living will so she was kept on life support until today so her three children could say their goodbyes, and the testing could be completed for organ donation.” The lifestyle guru said, “We are so sad but also happy that Laura had the foresight to donate so many healthy organs to needy people.”
Such tragic news, our thoughts go out to her friends and family.
The loving mother is survived by her husband, Randy and her three children, Christopher Herbert, Sophie Herbert Slater, and Charlie Plimpton. Martha ended her heartfelt blog with a plea for her readers to keep the family in their thoughts, “Laura deserves the very best; she was an extraordinary employee, mother, wife and sister.”
