So sad. Team USA basketball player Paul George suffered a serious leg injury at the team scrimmage on Aug. 1. Check out the video at your own discretion. The video is not for squeamish eyes.

The Team USA basketball scrimmage came to a shocking halt on Aug. 1 when star player Paul George, 24, suffered an agonizing right leg break after colliding with the base of the basket during the fourth quarter.

The Indiana Pacers small forward was playing defense against opposing player James Harden and hit the base behind the basket as James took a shot.

When Paul hit the base, his leg twisted in an excruciating way. Paul writhed by the basket in pain. Many fans had to turn away because the injury was so gruesome. The game was already in the fourth quarter, but was subsequently canceled after Paul’s injury.

As Paul was taken off the court on a stretcher the crowd roared with applause, according to USA Today.

Paul suffered a fracture of the tibia and fibula bones in his lower right leg, Indy Star reports. He also underwent surgery for the injury. Paul responded with a loving tweet after outpouring support from fans.

Paul George Breaks Silence After Devastating Basketball Injury

“This is a very tough blow,” said Jerry Colangelo, director of USA Basketball, according to the outlet. “It’s a first for us in USA basketball to have something like this take place. It’s a tough situation for our entire organization, our coaches and players and very, very emotional. There’s no way the game could have gone on under the circumstances.”
