When Zac Efron joined Bear Grylls for 48 hours in the Catskill Mountains, he had a chance to clear his head and come clean to the adventurer. Opening up in his first interview about his stint in rehab, Zac admitted that at one point the press got to be so overwhelming that he actually needed a ‘social lubricant’ to get through the day.
Zac Efron, 26, is finally opening up about his trip to rehab. In an extremely candid interview with Bear Grylls, 40, the hunky actor admitted that it became impossible for him to go out into the world because of the press. As a result, he would spend a lot of time in his house “going crazy.” Read below for Bear’s complete interview with Zac.
Zac Efron Rehab Interview
In a video posted to TMZ, Zac and Bear are shown hanging out together in the Catskill Mountains. After spending 48 hours together, Zac was comfortable enough with the British adventurer to open up about his former partying ways.
Zac told Bear, “The challenging part was never the work, that was never it. Sort of the in-between work, the social aspects of it outside of it. I mean, everywhere you go to a certain extent, there is press in some form. Whether you are going out to an event where you are supposed to be out with friends, there will be press there. If you are leaving your house to go to the grocery store, there will be press there. It can be everywhere, and it can be confusing.”
We can totally see where that would be overwhelming. Zac said that in an attempt to deal with the constant exposure, he would rarely leave his house. “You spend a lot of time in your house going crazy, pretty soon you need a social lubricant. Once I needed that, it became to go anywhere.”
The Neighbors star continued, “It got to the point where I was starting to care less about the work and waiting more for the weekend. Do you know what I mean? I couldn’t wait to go out and sort of let loose and have fun. Then on Monday and Tuesday when they were tough to get through, I was like ‘oh this is bad.”
Zac is clearly in a better place now, but does admit that things are easier when you are away from everyone and out in nature.
“I just never want to have to take something again from the outside into me to feel good about myself. To be comfortable in my present skin, that takes a lot of work. It’s just meditation and stopping and slowing down your brain. You don’t realize what you are out here, when we’re in it, but I haven’t thought about one thing today, apart from what you’re doing, where you’re at in this moment, and I think that is one of the most beautiful things about nature.”

Zac Efron Hooks Up With Michelle Rodriguez
Things are definitely looking up for Zac. He has been spotted vacationing and showing off plenty of hot PDA with Michelle Rodriguez, 36. As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, the two have been friends for a longtime and have actually been hooking up since 2011.
As we previously reported, the couple who had plenty to bond over just recently took things to the next level. A source told us, “But during The Rover after party, they hung out all night and really bonded with each other on a whole new level. They both had something to bond over. He was there for her breakup and she was there for his substance issues and that bond has turned romantic.”
Michelle and Zac are a really sweet couple. We love that they were friends first, before realizing that they had the potential to turn their friendship into something more. We also think it’s great that Zac is opening up and talking about his struggles, especially since he is such a role model to so many and has really over come his battles.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you glad Zac is opening up?
