mtvU Fandom Awards Best Moments — Tyler Posey, Natalie Dormer & More
Diehard fangirls and fanboys were in heaven as their favorite stars from television and movies hit the stage for the special mtvU honors. The show kicked off with special skit from nominees including Joe Manganiello, Nick Cannon, Taryn Manning, and Kat Graham.
The first honor, presented by MTV’s Teen Wolf star and Tyler Posey and YouTube phenom TylerOakley, was the ‘OMG Moment of the Year’ award. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones said they were “thrilled and honored’ (but luckily not choked up at all) when they won for its Purple Wedding episode.
But it was an onscreen reunion of exes Ian Somerhalder, 35, and Nina Dobrev, 25, that really had the audience abuzz. The Vampire Diaries costars appeared via satellite to nab their ‘Ship of the Year’ prize, which was given for the favorite unspoken relationship fandoms are dying to see. “We want to thank you guys for all of your love and support of Delena,” Nina said during her acceptance speech. Ian also took time to show some gratitude, “Our ship has been through some ups and downs and we are not sure where we would be without your support. So thank you, and we will try to keep it interesting for you.”
Rob Riggle, 44, and Kellan Lutz, 29, doled out the accolade for ‘Fandom Feat of the Year’ to Teen Wolf because their fans raised more than $25,000 to build a wolf sanctuary. Cast members Tyler Posey, 22, Tyler Hoechlin, 26, and Holland Roden, 27, had the audience clapping and howling with appreciation as they accepted the award.
The show was also chock full of pleasant surprises. Channing Tatum and Diego Luna, both 34, treated fans to an exclusive sneak peek of the animated movie The Book of Life from producer Guillermo del Toro and director Jorge Gutierrez. Chloë Grace Moretz , 17, also appeared to present an exclusive clip of the drama If I Stay.
mtvU Fandom Awards Best Moments —More Big Prizes
New York Times best-selling author John Green accepted his ‘Visionary Award’ for inspiring fans around the world through his moving work that includes the runaway hit The Fault in Our Stars. The Indianapolis scribe, 36, humbly accepted his prize saying, “I am lucky enough to have been a member of some sort of fandom at every stage in my life, so receiving this award means a great deal to me!”
But it was a short-lived cult show that secured the most coveted award of the night. Proving that marshmallows should always be toasted, Veronica Mars snagged mtvU’s ‘Fandom of the Year’ award (out of a bracket of 32 nominees!) and star Tina Majorino, 29, stepped up to claim the trophy on behalf of the cast.
Both hip hop’s G-easy and multi-platinum rock band Linkin Park got the audience on their feet during the night with electrifying performances. “We actually wanted to do costumes but it never really came together,” Mike Shindoa, 37, told HollywoodLife.com about how the band wanted to get into the spirit of performing at Comic-Con. And G-easy also told us that he was totally amped to be at the mtvU Fandom Awards, “Its a huge deal!”
