Na na na na na na…it’s Batman Day! Comic Book stores everywhere are celebrating the Caped Crusader, in honor of his 75th anniversary! DC Comics officially named July 23rd as ‘Batman Day’ and fans couldn’t be more excited to have an excuse to wear a cape in public. Read on for more details!

DC Comics is celebrating the long run of the masked hero, and what better way than declaring July 23 as “Batman Day?” The widely popular comic book company is partnering with comic book retailers and bookstores across the nation to celebrate the occasion. It has been 75 —  yes, 75 — years since the iconic hero first appeared on shelves. Here’s to 75 more years of justice!

Batman: World Celebrates 75th Anniversary With ‘Batman Day’

Ker-pow! The time has come to celebrate Batman’s big 75th birthday!

First off, if Batman is 75 — how old does that make Alfred?

Batman first appeared in the 27th issue of Detective Comics, published in 1939. His heroic adventures have been published continually ever since. Bruce Wayne, of course, is a wealthy tycoon who changes into a mask and dark cape to bring justice to Gotham City.

Though the Dark Knight possesses no real super powers, he is still an iconic crime fighting superhero with a very large fan base to back it up.

So, for “Batman Day,” retailers and pleasing that huge fan base — stores will offer a free retelling of the first Batman story and Bat-birthday collectibles. Go grab your copy before they’re all gone!

DC timed the Batman event to coincide with the kickoff of San Diego Comic-Con on July 23. The massive fan-crazed superhero convention, which spans four and a half days, draws more than 125,000 people — aka pure geek heaven.

DC Comics will have a large presence at the festival where they will host the panel, “Batman 75: Legends of the Dark Knight,” in hopes of putting Gotham’s famed Caped Crusader firmly back in the spotlight. (In other news, Gotham, which explores Bruce Wayne’s childhood before he was Batman, will premiere on FOX this fall.)
