Happy birthday, Prince George! It’s official — as of Tuesday, July 22 — the royal baby is a 1-year-old. So exciting!
Prince George, 1, is celebrating a brand-new milestone: turning one! In celebration of the royal baby’s first birthday, HollywoodLife.com is taking a look back at his adorable life in pictures. From his first-ever royal family portrait, to his first-ever royal tour of New Zealand and Australia — George sure has been a very busy little prince!
Prince George Celebrates 1st Birthday
Wow. A year sure flies by fast!
If you remember, we got our very first look at Prince George when Kate and William stepped out of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, England the following day, July 23.
The tiny little baby was swaddled in a wool blanket in his mother’s arms, while both Kate and William beamed with pride. The Duke and Duchess gracefully waved hello to supporters and press outside of the hospital, and then quickly packed up their Range Rover and made their way to Kensington Palace.
We didn’t get to see little George again until his first official portrait was released in Aug. 2013. In the photo, Kate and William are standing side-by-side on their lawn, with little George swaddled up in Kate’s arms once again.
Then, of course, there were the adorable baptism photos which displayed our first glimpse at Prince George’s rambunctious personality. In his cream colored baptism dress, George’s arms are up in the air excitedly as he gives his best smile while sitting in Kate’s lap. Both Kate and William are dressed in their Sunday best, beaming with smiles from ear-to-ear over their adorable little boy’s big day.
Prince George was growing up right before our very eyes!
Prince George’s First Royal Tour
In April 2014, Kate, William, and George packed their bags and traded in the England countryside for the beautiful landscape of New Zealand and Australia.
At just 8 months old, Prince George was already taking on his royal duties! He landed in New Zealand with Kate and William on April 7, and days later he attended his first-ever playdate. During the very exciting event, Prince George played with other babies his age while Kate and William chatted and exchanged parenting tips with other first-time parents.
We also got a glimpse at Prince George’s tantrums, because during the playdate he became a little bit fussy and tugged on Kate’s hair. Oops!
Once the family crossed the ocean and landed in Australia, Prince George visited the official Sydney residence and met Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove. The Governor-General presented the royal baby with a gift: a gigantic plush wombat! This gift was touching for the entire family, especially William, because he recalled how his late mother, Princess Diana, referred to him as her “little wombat.” So cute!
Georgie also took in a little bit of wildlife when he visited an Australian zoo and spent quality time with an adorable bilby. Throughout his visit, Prince George was audibly excited about the furry little animal, and we even witnessed Kate wiping her son’s drool on her chic dress — further proving her hands-on approach to parenting!
Last but not least, three new portraits of George were unveiled by the royal family in the days leading up to his first birthday. One portrait in particular showed George walking all by himself through a butterfly exhibit on July 2. So sweet!
