Kody Brown and his four wives took a romantic trip down memory lane and spilled all of his courting secrets. Now, we know how his ‘goo goo eyes’ helped him win over the hearts of the four women he wed.
If you’ve ever wondered how one man, Kody Brown, could convince four different sane women to sign on as his sister wives, the July 20th episode revealed all of his heart-capturing moves.
‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Wives Reveal How They Fell In Love With Kody
All four sister wives cuddled together with Kody on the couch and giggled, as they each remembered the moment she laid eyes on her future and, in three cases, already-married husband.
Of course, in most of America, the idea of flirting and making moves on a married man would be considered home-wrecking behavior, and most wives would be spitting mad at another woman for trying to get her claws into her man.
But not so in the strange world of polygamy. In the Brown family’s case, each of the wives was gleefully instrumental in getting at least one other future wife to get in on the multiple marriage fun — so weird. So that’s why it’s perfectly a-okay for all of Kody’s wives to knowingly laugh when they talk about how he seduced each of them.
First wife, Meri, who tied the knot with Kody just six months after meeting him when they were barely out of high school, admitted that she was chomping at the bit, almost immediately, to add a second wife to her marriage.
“We’d already decided that we’d live plural marriage and so we were always talking about who we might add into our family,” she recounted.
This confession seems so odd because Meri has admitted many times on previous episodes that she’s struggled with having to share her husband. Yet despite this, and even stranger — she’s the one who eventually pushed Kody into future fourth wife, Robyn‘s arms.
Some would have a field day with Meri’s polygamous marriage situation. They would also be baffled by wife #2, Janelle‘s acceptance of her decidedly non-romantic relationship with Kody from day one.
She had known Meri for two years before meeting Kody one day at their house. Meri and Kody were apparently polygamy’s “golden couple” at the time — being all young, cute, and blonde. So maybe Janelle was just star struck, but she recounts that seeing Kody for the first time was like a “bolt of lightening.” She hadn’t actually been raised in a polygamous community, but for some reason, nevertheless, she felt called to “the faith” and was investigating it.
All it took was one Kody and Janelle lunch for him to say, “You and I should consider you and I.” Janelle jumped in and said, “Let’s do it.”
I hope Meri was okay with her husband having lunch with another woman because that was the extent of Kody’s “courtship” of Janelle.
“I was practical and down to earth. We really didn’t have a romantic relationship,” Janelle now says. “We really didn’t know each other when we got married.”
Somehow Kody just had a “hunch” about her, and Janelle explained, “I definitely knew he was the guy I was supposed to marry and, quite specifically, that my children were supposed to be born to him.”
Well, despite the fact that Janelle has said frequently that she and Kody have a relationship more like best friends than romantic lovers, he’s managed to give her six children, so her premonition was correct.
Brown Family Shares How They Became Their Large, Polygamous Family
Christine, on the other hand, was all melty and smitten with Kody before she even met him. “I was in love with him before I met him,” she revealed. “I had a crush on Meri and Kody, but the problem with me marrying into their family was that I needed them to have a second wife.”
Okay, so most little girls grow up wanting to marry Prince Charming. Turns out that Christine, who was raised in a polygamous family, only wanted a Prince Charming who already had two other wives. To each her own.
“I always wanted to be a third wife,” said Christine. “I never wanted to be married to one guy — too much work! Plus, I figured that if I was a third wife, all the relationship problems [of having multiple wives] would be worked out.”
That’s why when Christine heard that Kody had married second wife, Janelle, she could “like” him again and she admittedly started “shamelessly flirting” with Kody.
This is when all the wives started getting very excited because the topic of Kody’s “goo-goo eyes” came up.
Christine couldn’t get more enamored of them. “Kody has goo-goo eyes and when he looks at you, they sparkle,” she divulged.
“They are only for you at that moment,” Meri joined in.
And now we get to Kody’s ultimate wife-capturing secret: “When he turns those eyes on you, you’re the most important woman in the world. All other girls don’t compare. You are it!” enthused Christine.
There you have it, guys — if you want to win women’s hearts, turn on your sparking goo-goo eyes.
Kody’s special charms ended up working on fourth wife, Robyn, too, though Kody initially wasn’t interested in her. “She looked like a soccer mom. She had a van, three kids, and was divorced. I thought, I didn’t need a van, a divorced woman, and three kids in my life — that’s just trouble,” he recalled.
Robyn, however, like Janelle, felt “a lightning bolt go through [her] body” the first time that she ever spotted Kody in church. Kody clearly has electricity!
And this was after Robyn had had a difficult divorce and sworn off men. But it only took one dance together at a party they both attended, with Meri urging them to get on the dance floor, before Kody knew he would make Robyn his fourth wife!
However, with this fourth marriage, both Meri and Christine struggled with feelings of neglect and jealousy before getting all gung ho about polygamy again.
The show wrapped up with a look back at all 17 Brown children. And once again you had to say that, despite having a dad divided among four wives, three of whom were once pregnant all at once, the kids have turned out awesome.
Anyone would want a son as responsible as the eldest child, Logan, or Christine’s oldest daughter, Aspyn — both of whom have practically raised their younger siblings.
So whatever works for you in the romance department, Browns, go ahead and enjoy!
Now, HollywoodLifers — could you share your husband with multiple wives? Let me know!
