What better song to perform at the first ever 2014 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards than ‘Happy?’ Pharrell wow’d us all with his upbeat performance on July 17!
If any song gets kids excited, it’s Pharrell‘s “Happy.” The 40-year-old singer and new Voice coach walked through the crowd to the stage at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California, getting everyone out of their seats, including Gabby Douglas and Dwayne Wade! What did you think of his performance?
Pharrell’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards Performance
When Pharrell performed at the end of the KCS Awards, we know it would be fun — we saw him perform it at the Oscars on March 2 and the crowd went crazy then, too. Pharrell entertained the crowd of kids while his dancers and backup singers all wore matching florescent and black work out outfits!
It’s been a good year for Pharrell — including this past week. Weird Al has been puttin gout new parody songs, and revealed that he actually went through Pharrell himself to get his permission!
“My manager was having a time tough getting a hold of Pharrell through his representatives,” Weird Al told Billboard. “In the meanwhile, I somehow — and I’m not at liberty to say how — got Pharrell’s personal e-mail address and I sent him an e-mail requesting permission, and he could not have been nicer. He sent me a very sweet e-mail back immediately saying he’d be honored. I was just blown away. He was just the sweetest guy.”
That being said, Pharrell must have been extremely “happy.” Weird Al didn’t just spoof one song — but three. He turned “Happy” into “Tacky,” Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines” into “Word Crimes” and used Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky” into part of his “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!” medley. That is quite the honor.
