So heartbreaking. Elaine Stritch, the adored and spunky Broadway actress died on July 16. She was 89.
She died in her home in Birmingham, Mich. on July 16. Her death was confirmed by friend Julie Keyes, reports the New York Times.
Elaine was a Broadway star. She was nominated for her first Tony Award in 1956 for Bus Stop. She was also nominated over the years for Sail Away, Company and a Delicate Balance.
She won a Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event in 2002 for her one-woman show in Elaine Stritch At Liberty.
Elaine was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1995.
The 89-year-old also guest-starred on 30 Rock as Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin) mother. She won a Primetime Emmy for her role on the show. She also won for her roles in Elaine Stritch At Liberty and Law & Order.
