Hollywood’s biggest stars came out to celebrate some great athletes and share some awesome and unexpected laughs at this year’s ESPYs. Read on to see the best moments of the 2014 ESPY Awards on July 16!
The 2014 ESPY Awards were amazing! Between Drake‘s hilarious jokes and skits, a surprise appearance by Chris Brown and a emotional acceptance speech by Arthur Ashe Courage Award winner Michael Sam, this awards show was definitely epic! Lets take a look at some of the evening’s highlights.
2014 ESPY Awards Best Moments: Drake, Chris Brown & So Much More
It is safe to say that the 2014 ESPY Awards were nothing short of fantastic. Drake was the perfect host — the rapper pulled out all the stops to make sure that the crowd was constantly entertained.
We loved that he incorporated his musical genius into the show — even singing Let It Go from Frozen! However, I think it is safe to say that Idina Menzel‘s version is still superior. From the moment Drake took the stage, it was apparent that he was there to have a good time, and he certainly delivered.
Of course, Drake had some star-studded help who just enhanced his already-great hosting skills. Clippers player Blake Griffin joined in on the fun. Chris Brown was there to perform “surgery” on our hilarious host. We love seeing these two unlikely friends collaborate both in and out of the studio.
In a funny moment, Maria Sharapova, who looked gorgeous and glowing in a black mini, was joined onstage by Floyd Mayweather, who she completely towered over with her height! At one point, we couldn’t even see Floyd until Maria noticed and quickly switched spots with the professional boxer. Luckily the two had a good laugh about it and then smoothly went back to presenting their award!
It is safe to say that the US was overcome with soccer fever these last few weeks, so it was great to see that our World Cup soccer team’s win over Ghana take home the award for Best Moment. Ghana had beat the US in the last two World Cup’s, so it certainly was a celebration when our team was finally triumphant.
In the most touching and inspiration moment of the night, Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, was awarded with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
The award is presented to someone who exhibits courage in the face of adversity — and we think Michael is the perfect person to accept this award. With his courage and positive message, Michael is certainly an inspiration and positive role model.
With the perfect balance of funny and inspirational, the 2014 ESPY Awards sure had a lengthy highlights reel!
