The July 13 episode of ‘True Blood’ didn’t feature any deaths of main characters. Whew! But that doesn’t mean there weren’t casualties in a battle between the Hep V vampires and Sookie’s crew.
True Blood is at its best when everyone is working together. On the July 13 episode, Sookie (Anna Paquin) teamed up Bill (Stephen Moyer), Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and more, familiar faces returned and we learned the beginnings of Fangtasia! Read on for a full recap of what went down on tonight’s episode.
‘True Blood’ Recap: The Beginnings Of Fangtasia & Hoyt’s Return
Alcide (Joe Manganiello) is gone and we are all still sad about it. Sookie was making the necessary calls to family members to let them know the news. She called Alcide’s dad who was having fun with a nearly naked lady. Alcide’s dad told Sookie that Alcide was never happier than when he was with her, therefore twisting the knife about Sookie not loving him enough.
Jason (Ryan Kwanten) also had a tough call to make. He had to let Hoyt(!) know that his mother had died. Hoyt was working in Anchorage, Alaska. Jason let him know that his mom was killed by a vampire, but Jason didn’t tell him the whole story. Jason started to get emotional since he was Hoyt’s (Jim Parrick) best friend, but Hoyt didn’t remember him because he’d been glamoured. (I love that Jason can cry. Such a sensitive guy.)
Meanwhile, Pam and Eric were on their way back to Louisiana. Pam scheduled the flight to land in Baton Rouge, but Eric wanted to land in Shreveport. He wanted to take responsibility for his progeny, Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire), before he died. Pam said there was nothing left for them in Shreveport, but Eric begged to differ. Flashback to 1986! Pam and Eric were checking out a video store/adult video store that would later become…wait for it…FANGTASIA! Eric was also asked to be the sheriff way back when.
Sookie went to visit Arlene’s (Carrie Preston) kids and promise them she would bring their mom back. (Don’t make a promise you can’t keep, Sookie.) Sookie headed to Holly’s place to find out where Arlene was located. Andy wasn’t so sure of Sookie’s method to make Holly remember, but he really didn’t have a choice. Sookie went through her memories and it was super painful for Holly. However, Sookie got the information she needed and ventured to Bill’s to form a plan.
‘True Blood’ Recap: Feeding Time
Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) still wasn’t healing from her bullet wound from last week. James (Nathan Parsons) worried about why she wasn’t eating. He threatened to go to Bill about her issues. “Don’t walk out on me,” she pleaded with him before James left to go get Bill.
James told Bill that Jessica hadn’t eaten in months. (WHAT!) Sookie offered herself for Jess to feel on, but Jess felt super guilty about it. “I don’t give a f**k about you or your problems,” Sookie told her. Even though Sookie said it was OK, Jessica refused to drink her blood. So, Sookie called Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). (Praise!) Lafayette stopped by looking fancy and awesome. Jessica was whining about how she was feeding on innocent people to survive. Lafayette said he wasn’t innocent. When Jessica asked if he’d killed people, he said he’d killed the man he loved. After this revelation, Jessica FINALLY fed. James mouthed “thank you” to Lafayette. (Still so sensual.)
Flashback again to 1996, Pam and Eric were still running the video store. This lady that came in didn’t think vampires were real until Eric walked in with a brand new hair do that was so 90210. It was very Dylan McKay. Ten years later, still a video store but girl Ginger had the idea of turning it into a nightclub. Sex sells and she said Eric was “pure sex on a throne.” (She’s right.) Pam loved the idea, but glamoured Ginger into believing it was her idea. “Such a bitch,” Eric said in the present. He was so proud.
Sookie and Bill continued down their road to getting back together this week. Basically, Sookie let Bill feed from her because she wanted him at his “strongest” for their plan. “It’s just lunch,” she said. Yeah right, Sookie.
‘True Blood’ Recap: Operation Save Arlene
Everyone pretty much joined Sookie’s pow-wow to save Arlene & Co. Jason cracked, “This is our Normandy.” Bill quickly reminded him that that wasn’t the best reference. “History’s a bitch,” Jason replied.
Just when things were getting kind of boring, Eric and Pam showed up! Sookie ran into Eric’s arms and realized he was sick. If you didn’t already know, Pam still hates Sookie and wanted to get a move on killing Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp).
Since he’s not an a**hole anymore, Bill gave Sookie and Eric time alone. “You can’t die on me,” Sookie cried to Eric. She revealed she had been dating Alcide in Eric’s absence and he was not pleased. As Eric detailed what he’d been doing all this time, he played with Sookie’s hair. (YES!) See, they’re are so comfortable with each other! He offered to help Sookie in anyway he could, much to Pam’s disapproval. Willa also stopped by and was super angry that Eric had left her.
To start off their plan, Sam (Sam Trammell) shapeshifted into a disgusting rat and found Arlene & Co. The rest of the gang was elsewhere. Eric tried to knock down a concrete wall, but was too weak so Bill stepped in. Eric wanted to go with Bill on the rescue mission, but Pam didn’t let that happen.
By the time Pam and Bill got to the group, Arlene had already been taken by the Hep-V vamps to be fed on. The infected vamps weren’t being nice and Arlene quickly started to die. Thankfully, Eric brought in Sookie and the Hep-V vamps went crazy over her smell. Sookie’s plan almost went without a hitch, but unexpected visitors put an end to that.
These unexpected visitors started shooting up Fangtasia, resulting into a full-fledged attack between Sookie’s camp, the Hep-V vamps and the humans.
Sookie pleaded with Arlene to hold on, but Arlene was slipping. She started seeing Terry (Todd Lowe) and he really was there! Bill saved Eric and proved there wasn’t any bad blood between them. Sookie screamed the Arlene needed a clean vamp to feed on in order to heal. One of James’ bandmates came to her rescue. Arlene lives! Yay! The rest of Sookie’s crew killed all the Hep-V vamps and the unexpected human visitors. While Sookie was consoling Arlene, Eric walked in and the two shared that look.
It’s so good to have Eric back in the groove of things. Plus, Arlene is alive and our eyes can rest from all the tears that were shed after Alcide’s death.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of tonight’s True Blood? Are you glad Arlene is alive? How great is it to have Eric back? Are Sookie and Bill totally going to get back together? Let us know!
