New details about the tragic final moments of a Houston, Texas family before the murderous Ron Haskell shot 6 out of 7 of them dead execution style in their own home have been revealed. So sad.
On Wednesday, July 9, Ronald Lee Haskell, 34, allegedly posed as a delivery man when he arrived at the home of his ex-sister in law. The deranged man, with a history of domestic violence, allegedly kept his five innocent nieces and nephews — ranging from ages 15 to 4 — hostage for hours before shooting them and their two parents, Katie and Stephen Stay at the end of the day. This heartbreaking tragedy left one survivor without a family, 15-year-old Cassidy Stay, who is expected to recover in full.
Stay Family’s Brave Final Moments Before Being Shot Execution Style
An entire family were the victims of a brutal execution-style slaying inside their home on the evening of July 9.
New details about their horrifying day have been revealed, as well the family’s heartbreaking final moments alive.
According to a press release from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office obtained by HollywoodLife.com, Ron Haskell posed as “as a parcel delivery driver” when he arrived at the Stay family’s home that afternoon. He then managed to force entry into the home, and once inside he kept the Stay family’s four children — Zachary, 4, Rebecca, 7, Emily, 9, Bryan, 14, and Cassidy, 15 — held hostage at gunpoint.
When parents Katie and Stephen Stay returned home from work at their real estate agency, Ron reportedly demanded to know where his ex-wife, Katie’s sister Melanie Lyon, was staying. The family did not tell him, so he shot all seven of them execution-style in the back of the head.
Miraculously, Cassidy survived being shot in the head and somehow managed to find the strength to find a phone and call 911. Cassidy not only revealed Ron’s identity to police, she told them she believed he was headed to their grandparents house next.
Because of Cassidy’s heroic actions, police were able to track down Ron’s vehicle before he could harm anyone else. They chased him for 25 minutes before cornering him in a residential cul de sac where he managed to stand-off with police for several hours.
Ron finally surrendered and was taken into Harris County police custody. He has been charged with one count of capital murder for allegedly killing multiple individuals.
Cassidy, who was shot in the head by her estranged uncle, is expected to make a “full recovery” according to a family statement released by the HCPD on July 10. She is truly a remarkable young lady, and the hero of this horrible tragedy.
Stay Family Relative Reveals Ron Was Jealous Of The Couple
The Stay family, who were reportedly mormon and extremely religious, lived a wonderful life inside their Houston-area home.
A relative of the family has revealed that Ron was extremely jealous of Katie and Stephen’s family life, which is another reason why he decided to slaughter them.
Thomas Stay told the Daily Mail that Ron was “jealous of Stephen and Katie’s family and what they could have that he didn’t have.”
He also revealed that Ron was considered “unstable” for quite some time before the shooting occurred. Ron had been married to Katie’s sister Melanie for 11 years, and the couple reportedly had a history of domestic violence.
There is no word on Melanie’s whereabouts, but it’s safe to assume she was trying to stay under the radar with her three children so that Ron could not find them.
Our thoughts go out to Cassidy, as well as the Stay and Lyon families at this devastating time.
