On June 30, PepsiCo CEO Indra K. Nooyi said to an audience that she doesn’t believe women can “have it all” — but Kim Kardashian does not agree. When sitting down with CNBC’s Closing Bell on July 7, she fired back, saying that she strongly believes women can both be great mothers and hard workers — and that Kris Jenner taught her and her sisters just that.
“For me, my mom kind of taught us girls we could have it all,” Kim said on CNBC’s Closing Bell on July 7, when sitting down with Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian. “She worked hard. She taught us if you work hard, it’s all ability, prioritizing, and I think that, yeah, it could get tough. After you have a baby, there are so many times I didn’t want to get up and work on something, and I wanted to be home with my baby.”
The topic came up with the sisters were asked about Indra’s statement made at the Aspen Ideas Festival on June 30:
I don’t think women can have it all. I just don’t think so. We pretend we have it all. We pretend we can have it all. My husband and I have been married for 34 years. And we have two daughters. And every day you have to make a decision about whether you are going to be a wife or a mother, in fact many times during the day you have to make those decisions. And you have to co-opt a lot of people to help you. We co-opted our families to help us. We plan our lives meticulously so we can be decent parents. But if you ask our daughters, I’m not sure they will say that I’ve been a good mom. I’m not sure.
However, Kim definitely doesn’t agree.
“So if anyone really feels like they can’t do it all, I feel like it’s a little bit discouraging to say that, even if I couldn’t and it wasn’t possible, I would try and I would try my best to do it all,” she said. Then Kourtney, a mother of two with another on the way, chimed in.
“I think my biggest struggle as a mom has been balancing the two, but I do think it’s possible,” Kourtney said, before Khloe added: “There is no cookie cutter way, it’s whatever works for your life, and your career and your family. No two families are the same, no two wants are the same. I think you have as to find what works best for you in your private home.”
