The 10th anniversary of ‘The Notebook’ reminded fans of why they fell in love with the movie. However, in an interview on July 1, director Nick Cassavetes revealed that the on-screen chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams was not as real as it appeared to be! Read on to see what happened.
Ryan Gosling, 33, and Rachel McAdams, 35, are the definition of good actors, because The Notebook showed no signs of the off-screen tension between the co-stars. On July 1, director Nick Cassavetes revealed in an interview with VH1 that Ryan and Rachel got into a huge fight on set and that Ryan wanted Rachel to leave!
Ryan Gosling Wanted Rachel McAdams Kicked Off The Set
In the interview with VH1, Nick revealed that Ryan and Rachel did not get along. In fact, Ryan told Nick that he could not work with Rachel right in the middle of shooting a scene with her!
“Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, “Nick come here,’” Nick said in the interview. “And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, “Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.'”
Luckily, Nick saved the day — and possibly the film — with an impromptu therapy session in which Ryan and Rachel worked out their differences.
Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams Real Life Romance
In a 2007 interview with The Observer, Ryan opened up about his relationship with McAdams.
“We inspired the worst in each other. It was a strange experience, making a love story and not getting along with your co-star in any way,” Ryan said in the interview.
Despite the tension, The Notebook led to a real-life relationship between the pair. Ryan and Rachel dated on and off for four years before they split in 2007.
