How sad! Jewel, 40, and her husband Ty Murray, 44, have decided to separate after six years of marriage and a relationship that lasted a combined 16 years.
“My husband, friend and partner of 16 years and I have decided to get a divorce,” Jewel wrote in her blog on July 2. “Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together.”
In wording which rivals Gwyneth Paltrow‘s “conscious uncoupling” from Chris Martin, Jewel continued that, “For some time we have been engaged in private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves.”
Jewel and Ty have assured fans on Jewel’s official website that they will be committed to continuing to raise their son Kace Townes, 2, together:
“Our dedication to our son is unwavering and we are both committed to being the best partners in raising our son. Due to the spirit in which we have gone about this separation, we trust we can remain dear friends who hold each other in high esteem, which is so important to us as parents – we wish only what is best for our son.”
Ty is a nine-time World Champion rodeo cowboy and founder and board advisor of the Professional Bull Riders. He and Jewel married in the Bahamas in 2008 after 10 years of dating.
Our thoughts go out to the couple during this trying time, and we wish them all the best as they continue to raise their son together with love moving forward.
