Looks like the Aaliyah Lifetime biopic is NOT happening. Zendaya, 17, who was initially cast as the late singer, has dropped out of the biopic. Zendaya tweeted about the biopic and said that if she was going to play Aaliyah she “wants to do it right.”
Zendaya is no longer a part of the Aaliyah Lifetime biopic. The 17-year-old tweeted out the news on June 29.
“Aaliyah has always been a source of inspiration to Zendaya,” she said. “She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her…”
Zendaya continued by saying, “if she is going to do it, she wants to do it right.” That’s the spirit, Z!
Lifetime also tweeted about the news on June 29 on their Communications Twitter page: “We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold.”
Zendaya was set to star as the late R&B singer who passed away 13 years ago in a plane crash. The TV movie was going to based the biopic off the bestselling book, Aaliyah: More Than A Woman by Christopher Farley.
Sadly, Zendaya’s involvement in the flick just wasn’t meant to be. The family was reportedly upset that no one reached out to the family before going forward with a movie project, TMZ reported.
HollywoodLife.com talked to Zendaya the day the news broke of her casting and she was super excited to play Aaliyah in the biopic. We’re sad that we won’t get to see her on the big screen as Aaliyah.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think about Zendaya dropping out of the Aaliyah biopic? Was it the right thing to do? Let us know!
