Rising Star is better than The Voice, which some use as an excuse not to watch it. On The Voice, there are prerecorded shows, judges making the decisions , and waiting on the results. Rising Star has none of that. The results are in realtime on Rising Star. On top of that, the Pacific Coast audience has some power to turn things around. Unlike The Voice, the judges and producers have no say-so in the outcome of the competition on Rising Star. The coaches have too much power on The Voice. In the battle round of The Voice, a coach can rig the battle in a particular contestants’ favor and pretend like it was a tough decision when it was really an easy decision.

Rising Star was boring. I watched the entire show to see if it got any better but, it just never quite hit the mark. The technology for the wall was probably the most exciting part of the show. The “experts” just weren’t engaging. Josh is a great vocalist and I love his music but, not everyone is meant to be an emcee. Won’t be watching again….I was disappointed.

The funniest moment of Rising Star’s premiere was when Brad Paisley suggested to one of the singers – who didn’t raise the wall – that he should get more experience and come back in a few years to try again. A few years? It was hard enough to sit through a few hours of this Idol/Voice wannabee, which will be lucky to last throughout this Summer, let alone worry about future seasons.

I thought Rising Star was good. It’s very even with the app format that’s all the rage now. This way the public knows who’s good or not, not the judges or the show producers. The ones who scored 85 to 90 percent were very good; the bad ones who got 30 to 40 percent were bland to forgettable. Some parts of the show do need work, but it had an entertaining pace. I see it doing subpar ratings but it will increase by the mid July shows.
