Khloe Kardashian, 29, has found herself right in the middle of a cultural controversy. At her niece North West‘s birthday party, Khloe posted an Instagram photo. Now, hundreds of comments on Khloe’s post slam the star for dissing Native Americans heritage. Will she have to make an official apology soon?
Khloe captioned her controversial photo with: “Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella!!!” While Khloe looks meditative and relaxed in the photo, Instagram users immediately expressed anger at Khloe.
“If she is familiar with the culture, she would be aware of the history of the people and their struggles. She would also have an understanding of why such a photo, posted on a social network by a public figure FOR NO REASON is controversial,” one post reads. “To all you non-natives who say that this isn’t a big deal.. It is, you don’t know what our people have been through especially our elders. White people tried taking our cultural away when our elders (today) were kids, and now white mock us by wearing a headdress and saying ” we’re making an effort,'” another replied.
While hundreds dissed Khloe, some fans stood up for her. “She just looked hot and took a picture. It’s that easy. There is no disrespect at all here you just want some type of attention and that’s why you’re all getting ‘worked up,'” one person said in Khloe’s defense. “How is this anyway near disrespectful? it’s a party theme based off the music event @coachella for a little kids party,” another posted.
Khloe has yet to make an official statement on the situation, but commenters continue to post that they’re angry about the pic.
Despite the drama, the Kardashian fam seemed to have a blast at North’s first birthday party on June 21! In true Kim Kardashian and Kanye West style, the parents threw their daughter a lavish party that included a ferris wheel and face painting! The bash took place at Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s new Calabasas home in the Oaks of Calabasas community.
