Oh no! Will Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey, two of the US Men’s National Soccer team’s best players, be playing in the World Cup match on June 22?
Despite their fantastic win over Ghana on June 16, the US Men’s National Soccer team is dealing with major injuries from some of their best players. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey were both injured in the June 16 match — so will they be returning to the field when the team faces Portugal on June 22?
Jozy Altidore & Clint Dempsey: Will They Play In USA Vs. Portugal World Cup Match?
The USA World Cup team will be facing off against Portugal on June 22 without one key player. Jozy Altidore, who suffered a knee injury in the June 16 match, will NOT be stepping out on the field to play against Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jozy’s absence on the field is a big loss for the US Men’s National Soccer team. “The problem with Jozy Altidore is he’s unique,” ESPN analyst Alexi Lalas told Good Morning America on June 20. Alexi said that Jozy plays his forward position “in a special way” that will be difficult to replace.
US Men’s National Soccer Team: Can They Beat Portugal?
If the US Men’s National Soccer team does beat Portugal on June 22, it doesn’t guarantee that the team will advance to the next round of the World Cup. But if they lost, they’re out for good.
The team is going to have to play better than ever to beat Cristiano and his merry team of soccer players, as well as cope with the loss of Jozy on the field.
The US Men’s National Soccer team and Portugal face off on June 22 at 6:00 pm ET. It’s a game that’s not to be missed!
