Spain may have suffered an early exit from the World Cup, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to celebrate! After a 36-year reign, the former King Juan Carlos of Spain signed his abdication papers the night before his son, Felipe VI, 46, was crowned the new King of Spain. In a relatively low-key ceremony alongside his beautiful wife, the new Queen Letizia, and their beautiful children, Sofia and Leonor. Check out our gallery of the beautiful ceremony, and the even more beautiful family!
King Felipe VI Of Spain Crowned Alongside Gorgeous Wife, Queen Letizia
The low-key swearing in process was an effort to prove that the new monarchy will follow the more austere measures that were set in place by Juan Carlos. Normally, these kinds of ceremonies are attended by royals from other states and other important figures.
Instead, King Felipe VI’s coronation was like getting hitched at the courthouse; The event was attended by high-level Spanish politicians, other members of the Spanish royal family, and, of course, Queen Letizia and their daughters Sofia and Leonor.
As he addressed the parliament, King Felipe called for “a new Spain that we can build together.” While the role is mainly symbolic, it is the hope that Felipe will be able to use his position to push dialogue regarding the threat of a separatist movement in the wealthy Catalonia.
Queen Letizia And Daughters Sofia & Leonor Looked Beautiful At The Ceremony
“Now more than ever, citizens of Spain are rightly demanding fundamental ethical principles should govern our public life,” said the new King Felipe VI. “The king should not only be a reference but who serves all citizens of Spain.”
His Queen Letizia looked gorgeous with her hair braided into a headband and wearing a demure but flattering creamsuit and skirt with a jeweled neckline. Their daughters wore matching pleated dresses with adorable bows around the waist, and they looked the picture of the perfect royal family.
So, HollywoodLifers, what do you think about the new King and Queen of Spain? Aren’t they a beautiful family? Do you think that Felipe VI will be able to exact change? Let us know!
