In a new interview, ‘Game Of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirm that Season 5 will, indeed, take place in Dorne.
Casting notices for Season 5 of Game Of Thrones have been leaking like a sieve since even before Season 4 wrapped on June 15, and the thread connecting all of the leaks has been Dorne, the birthplace of Prince Oberyn Martell, whose head was crushed like a grape by The Mountain. Well, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have finally confirmed what we’ve all been eagerly anticipating — that Season 5 of GoT will take place in Dorne. Read on for news about Dorne, David and Dan’s plans for when they inevitably run out of source material, and more!
‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5: Dorne Will Be The Setting, Confirms Showrunners
“There will be Dorne, and we’re excited about it,” Dan and David revealed to EW. “Who wouldn’t want to hang out in Dorne? They have admirable values and priorities. And have you seen Oberyn’s coat?” Super valid point. That’s a great coat. However, since filming for Dorne will take place in Spain, they might want to lose the coats.
When asked about the inevitability of the series catching up with George R.R. Martin‘s Song Of Ice And Fire series of novels, Dan and David replied that “We have talked to George extensively about where he’s going with the books, and will continue to do so.
“His books are the blueprint for the world we’re building. Ultimately, the show needs to work on its own terms, and keep on moving. Our job is to square that necessity with George’s work to the best of our ability”
‘Game Of Thrones’ Will End After Seven Seasons — Depressed Already?
They also confirm that they still plan on finishing after seven seasons, and that “the fantasy’s not going away,” contrary — and perhaps in indirect response to — fan outrage over the lack of Coldhands and Lady Stoneheart. “The White Walkers aren’t going away. The dragons aren’t getting any smaller. Melisandre’s still sorceressing, the giants are more pissed than ever.”
Finally, we’ll also see more of Littlefinger’s plot to eventually win the game of thrones — “He wants everything. He wants to sit on that throne. By necessity, his path there will be twisted and indirect. But everything he does in some way points to that goal.” Season 5 will also clarify why Lord Varys decided to throw away everything he had built for himself by leaving King’s Landing with Tyrion.
So, HollywoodLifers, are you excited about Season 5 taking place in Dorne? What do you think Varys’ plan is? Littlefinger’s? Will we ever see Coldhands or Lady Stoneheart? Let us know!
