Chelsea Handler is heading to Netflix! The late-night comedienne inked a deal with the streaming network for a 2016 worldwide launch. Chelsea ends her seven-year run on E!’s ‘Chelsea Lately’ this August 26.
Chelsea Handler is leaving Lately, but you’re about to get a whole lot more of her! Chelsea is bringing a brand new talk show format to Netflix for her untitled show, which is set to debut in early 2016. She will also bring standup specials to the network. Read on for more details!
Chelsea Handler Launching Netflix Talk Show In 2016
Chelsea Handler is heading…everywhere! The funny gal has landed her own talk show on Netflix so you can watch her anytime, anywhere and you know she’ll be unfiltered.
After months of negotiation, the hilariously inappropriate comedienne has inked a deal with the streaming network to create a brand new talk show with an “updated format.”
“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested,” Chelsea said in a statement, announcing her excitement over her new show. “I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch, so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move…I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages…No offense to the Shahs of Sunset.”
Get ready for more of those jabs and opinions that we all love because Chelsea will brings her unorthodox commentary on pop culture and entertainment to the show. Netflix has yet to announce many details such as how often it’ll run, but we do know that her signature celebrity interviews remain. (So prepare to hear more about Gwyneth Paltrow‘s sex life.)
Besides her new talk show, Chelsea is bringing comedy specials to Netflix. Her first hour-long standup comedy special based on her tour, Uganda Be Kidding Me, will premiere on October 10, 2014, and she will also create and produce four more specials for the network covering politics, sports and tech. We can’t wait.
It also could have been a whole lot different, PsyID, a company that analyzes what people are saying on Facebook and Twitter, turning their chatter into polls, did a poll to see who the people favor to replace Letterman and found well over 60% favor Chelsea Handler.
PsyID monitors the chatter and activity on social media, in this case looking at around 75k-1MM people. They then cross reference the data from demographic specific forums (women, men, sports, liberal, conservative, etc). They also have access to Twitter’s entire firehose. But now we know, if you want Chelsea, it is all about Netflix!
HollywoodLifers, will you watch Chelsea’s Netflix show or do you wish she would stay on television? Let us know!
