The June 16 episode of ’24: Live Another Day’ suffered the loss of a major character. Prepare yourself for the jaw-dropping final moments.
24: Live Another Day had yet to lose a major character to the show’s core. That all changed on the June 16 episode. President Heller (William Devane) made his final plans to surrender to Margot (Michelle Fairley) and enlisted Jack’s (Kiefer Sutherland) help, Jordan (Giles Matthey) desperately tried to stay alive and a crucial character was reduced to ashes.
’24: Live Another Day’ Recap: Cruel Intentions
The only person who could provide any information on Margot’s whereabouts was flatlining. Jack brought Simone (Emily Berrington) in to the CIA hospital and she was in critical condition. But Jack wasn’t done with her. He needed Simone to be woken up, where she died or not. They were down to the wire trying to prevent another drone attack and Simone was the only hope.
Meanwhile, Margot and Ian were on the move. Margot revealed that Heller wanted to surrender himself, and Ian couldn’t believe it. Even Margot was baffled that Heller agreed to the demands in the first place. Ian asked if she would really destroy the drones if Heller did surrender. She hesitated, but said she would keep her word.
Navarro (Benjamin Bratt) took a break from the terrorist threats to call his guy about Jordan. He asked if Jordan had been killed and his guy said he wasn’t sure. He knew the shot wounded him, but maybe hadn’t killed him. “Make sure he’s dead,” Navarro told his guy. Right on target, Navarro’s guy found Jordan’s trail of blood and followed it.
Jack went to see Heller and he spilled about his intentions to surrender. Heller showed Jack the video of Margot specifying where Heller was to surrender. Wembley Stadium was Margot’s place of choice. She promise to destroy the drones once Heller was dead. Jack couldn’t believe Heller was making such a huge decision, one that concerned national policy, on his own. Heller revealed he was handing in his letter of resignation in an hour, which made his decision personal. Jack refused to negotiate with terrorists. Then, Heller confessed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. [INSERT POLL HERE align=”right”]
Heller said surrendering wasn’t about being a hero, it was about all the victims. If Heller didn’t surrender, Margot would attack again. Heller wanted Jack to get him to Wembley Stadium. Jack asked if Heller had told Audrey (Kim Raver), which he had not. They needed one more person they could trust to get Heller past the Secret Service.
Heller went to Mark (Tate Donovan).
’24: Live Another Day’ Recap: Distress Calls
Jack revealed to Kate (Yvonne Strahovski) that Heller was going to cooperate with Margot’s demands within the hour. He wanted an update on Simone, who was still unconscious. Jack’s response to that? “So wake the b***h up.”
Kate went into Simone’s room and pulled a gun on the doctor. He complied to wake her up. When Simone opened her eyes, Kate asked where he mother was. Simone told Kate her mother’s location, but said she would be gone. However, she did say that Naveed had hidden a disc in the house that could help them.
As much as they really didn’t like each other, Jack and Mark had to work together. “Audrey is never going to forgive me for this,” Mark told Heller and Jack. (He’s probably right.) Before he surrendered, Heller spent some quality time with Audrey and she had no idea of his plans.
Over in traitor territory, Jordan made a distress call to Navarro about being shot! He told Navarro everything that had happened, not knowing that Navarro wanted him dead. Navarro filled his guy in on Jordan’s location and told him to finish Jordan off.
Navarro’s guy followed Jordan, but Jordan wasn’t going to give up easily. Jordan managed to get the guy at gunpoint and asked him to tell him why Navarro wanted him killed. A scuffle ensued and Jordan was stabbed, but he managed to kill Navarro’s guy.
Jack and Heller were on the move, but before they left, Jack had to take a location chip out of Heller’s arm. As they headed out of the building, Jack took care of an agent who questioned him. (Always the Jack Bauer way.) Jack and Heller got into a helicopter and headed to the stadium.
’24: Live Another Day’ Recap: Gone In An Instant
Agents descended on Margot’s house and they found the disc Simone talked about. Kate demanded the information on the disc be sent to Chloe, who had set up camp at a bar. It wasn’t going to be easy to crack into the disc data because of firewalls, and Chloe worried she didn’t have enough time.
Margot and Ian had finally set up camp elsewhere and Margot asked for the drones to be disabled whenever Heller was dead.
Adrian (Michael Wincott) called and asked if Navarro had killed Jordan. Navarro said yes. Then, Adrian called Chloe and asked her to come back and work for him. Like always, she chose Jack.
After Heller and Jack had left, Mark found Audrey, who was heartbroken by the letter Heller had left her. And just with a look, Audrey knew that Mark knew why. Audrey freaked and said her dad wasn’t well and believed she could have changed his mind. All she really wanted was to say goodbye. “Mark, you are my husband. You should have told me,” Audrey said. “I will never trust you again,” she screamed.
Mark said that Heller was the greatest man he had ever known and that he had asked him to do one last service for him. He wasn’t going to deny Heller that. Audrey wanted to know if Heller was alone and Mark said he was with someone he trusted.
Heller and Jack made it to Wembley Stadium and Heller revealed that Jack was going to be cleared of everything. Jack asked if Heller was sure of his decision. “This is the right way for me to go,” Heller said. Heller walked into the middle of the stadium, to his death. Heller was ready to die. Margot’s drone found Wembley Stadium and centered it on Heller. She asked Ian if the missiles were ready to fire.
Margot took control of the drone and fired.
BOOM. Heller was dead in an instant.
