Jared Michael Padgett, 15, has been identified as the gunman from the Reynolds High School shooting on June 10. Jared was armed with a handgun, a knife, and the same assault rifle used by Adam Lanza in the Sandy Hook shooting. Scary.
Jared Michael Padgett, 15, was a freshman at Reynolds High School when he opened fire inside the gymnasium building on the morning of June 10. Troutdale Police Chief Scott Anderson confirmed Jared’s identity over 24 hours after the shooting, which left another freshman, Emilio Hoffman, 15, dead.
Reynolds High School Shooter Identified: Jared Michael Padgett
The student who unleashed horror on his classmates has finally been publicly identified by Troutdale Police.
Jared, just 15 years old, brought an AR15 assault rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and a large knife into his school by hiding them inside a guitar case. Even more troubling is the fact that Jared managed to bring the weapons to school by way of a school bus.
This is not the first time an AR15 assault rifle has been used in a school shooting. Adam Lanza, the gunman from the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 20 children dead, used the same type of gun. A terrifying similarity.
The weapons Jared brought into the school were owned by his family. Police revealed that the weapons were secured inside the family home, but Jared managed to “defeat” the security measures.
Jared, who comes from a strong military family, has been described as a “quiet student with a need for order and a fascination with guns,” according to Oregon Live.
One of Jared’s classmates, a fellow freshman named Kaylah Ensign, described Jared as “respectful” and “well-liked by others.”
During the shooting, Jared killed another freshman, Emilio Hoffman, and injured a gym teacher, Todd Rispler, before exchanging gunfire a police officer. An autopsy confirmed that Jared ultimately took his own life while sitting on a toilet in the bathroom after being cornered by police.
“We have not established any link between the shooter and the victim,” Police Chief Scott Anderson revealed during a press conference.
The police chief also confirmed that Jared was wearing a camouflage helmet and an ammunition vest. Jared was also armed with hundreds of rounds of ammo, which makes it safe to assume he was prepared to commit mass murder.
This is so scary to hear. Our thoughts remain with Emilio’s family at this time.
