The young rapper suffered from sickle cell anemia and was admitted to a hospital on June 5, according to MTV News. JayAre later went into cardiac arrest and died at only 25 years old.
Later that night, Cali Swag District group member Corey “Smoove Da General” Fowler tweeted about JayAre’s tragic death: “Sickle cell took my brother away from me today…with that being said I’m proud to know that with that disease he made the best of his life.”
This isn’t the first Cali Swag District member to pass away unexpectedly. M-Bone was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in 2011.
JayAre and the Cali Swag District exploded onto the music scene with their hit, “Teach Me How To Dougie.” The group released a mixtape in earlier 2014 titled “The District,” and included rappers Waka Flocka, Problem and Ty Dolla $ign.
Our thoughts and prayers are with JayAre’s family and friends as they deal with this unexpected tragedy.
