Eric Hill lost his life on April 23, just weeks after being eliminated from ‘The Bachelorette.’ Now, his heartbroken sister Karen Tracy is revealing in an interview how she feels watching his life on TV, and why she actually feels grateful for the show.
“The show had to go on,” Karen Tracy said in a new interview about her brother Eric Hill, who passed away in a tragic paragliding accident following his four weeks on The Bachelorette. Karen, who was the one who confirmed the death at the time on Facebook, spoke out to Today.com, revealing a side of Eric we didn’t know, and what she does every Monday while watching him and Andi Dorfman on the show.
Eric Hill’s Death: Sister Speaks Out
“He had finished filming The Bachelorette. But the show had to go on: It began airing in May. And so I have the unique opportunity to watch him live on, and watch the world get to know him,” Karen told Today.com.
On the June 2 episode, we saw Eric get in a disagreement with Andi and was sent home. Afterward, Chris Harrison and Andi paid tribute to him in a one-on-one where they remembered the life he held — and his sister agreed.
“In some ways, it’s only fitting that he is defying death in this way,” she said. “My brother always thought bigger and dreamed bigger than anyone I have ever known.”
While Karen doesn’t own a TV, she goes over to a friend’s house to watch the show.
“People ask if it’s difficult to watch him on the show, and I do get a little nervous until I see the handsome brother that I know and love,” she said. “I get a little tearful, but I know Eric would want his audience to enjoy the journey with him, and seeing him makes me smile.”
Karen Tracy: I Always Worried About Eric
Sadly, Karen was always worried about her brother who was embarking on The Global Odyssey to visit every country in the world.
“With a brother who was always adventuring, I often worried about him, sometimes waking in the middle of the night to text, ‘Hey Eric, are you OK?,'” Karen said. “He would send little notes back like this one from last May: ‘I’m OK! I’m in the mountains of Burundi. A little piece of heaven in an otherwise rough country.'”
We loved seeing Eric on The Bachelorette and wish his family and friends all the best.
