In December, reports surfaced claiming that Selena Gomez had Lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease. While she never confirmed, her family has now spoke out, five months later, revealing that she’s ‘in treatment’ for the condition.
Selena Gomez‘s grandfather, Ricardo Gomez Sr. revealed in a new interview that his granddaughter, 21, is suffering from Lupus, and “is getting along pretty good” while in treatment. Another thing he confirmed? Justin Bieber is definitely a factor in all the pressure she’s under.
Selena Gomez’s Lupus Treatment
Selena was diagnosed with Lupus “a couple of years ago,” Ricardo Sr. told RadarOnline. “She’s in treatment. She’s getting along pretty good. What worries [us] more is that she doesn’t know how to say no. She won’t take time for herself to relax, to eat well.”
While he admitted in the interview he has not seen her since November, he added that before that, she would visit once a month or so. He explained that her non-stop work schedule was very pressing on her.
“She doesn’t know how to say no. She won’t take time for herself to relax, to eat well,” Ricardo said. “The sad part is we hardly see her nowadays, just by phone …When we talk on the phone we say, ‘We don’t see you in person but we see you in the news, in the newspaper, the TV… Are you ok?’ She says, ‘Yeah.'”
A source close to Selena also told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that she hasn’t actually spoken to him in years.
Selena Has Too Much Pressure, ‘Worried A Lot About Justin’
When Selena took a short time off of music, her grandfather added, it was because she felt very pressured — by both work and personal matters.
“She was working a lot. She was exhausted. She hardly takes some time out. There was some pressure, first because it’s a lot of work,” he said, but added “she was worried a lot about Justin.”
Selena has always been worried about Justin and what he’s doing but we know that now she’s focusing all on herself — which is a good thing.
“The doctor was telling her she needs to take some time out,” her grandfather added. “It’s just too much pressure what she’s going through. It’s just too much! She doesn’t have a single day’s break. It’s getting to the point with all this pressure, that it’s too much.”
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Should Selena take a break from all the media for awhile?
