It’s that time of the year again! Season 9 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ premiered on Tuesday, May 27. So who impressed the judges right off the bat? Read on for a full episode recap!
Nick Cannon returns as host for America’s Got Talent with judges Heidi Klum, Howard Stern, Howie Mandel, and Mel B. Last season, Kenichi Ebina was voted the winner for his intricate dance performances. We’re just getting started — let’s see who makes it this time!
‘America’s Got Talent’ Returns For Season 9
Adrian Romoff, 9, started off the show with a bang, shocking judges not only with his outstanding piano skills, but also his incredible IQ. The young pianist joked, “can’t be a doctor at age 5, can be a musician though.” After performing two songs, Howie complimented the young man: “You are the future, absolutely brilliant.” Way to go, kid!
Dan Naturman, 40, a stand-up comedian, came right off the back joking about marriage. He seemed nervous at first but showed no hesitation on the stage. He got all four judges standing — well done Dan!
Next, two partners stunned the audience with an incredibly difficult hand-balance routine. Their incredible strength and daring personality had people biting their lips, but they nailed it! Mel B emphasized, “That was beyond crazy, I loved it!”
Don’t be fooled by his age! Mike Greenstein, 93, introduced himself by saying his talent is “pulling vehicles with my teeth. I’m a strongman.” The camera followed him outside, as the old man pulled a car across the finish line. Like they say, don’t judge a book by it’s cover — this man had us all on our feet cheering!
After, the audience’s jaws dropped when two ladies from New Orleans sang an incredible opera number together. The soprano duo, Ashley Renée and Olanna Goudeau, received an easy four yeses from the judges!
Despite plenty of joy for the judges, the show for sure had its weak moments. Some acts had the judges falling asleep, and not everyone was so lucky — or talented.
Donnie Valentine got four X’s across the board. Howard added on to the singer’s unprofessional voice, “I’ve been judging for four years, and I have never seen someone get kicked off that quickly.” Ouch.
Host Nick Cannon even joined a hula-hoop lady onstage to save her from embarrassment.
The Golden Buzzer Has Rung: Was It Well-Deserved Though?
We also love the judges on this show. Howard joked about his judge table to the crowd, “I can’t work with them. Do you want to?” The judges argued back and forth on multiple contestants. Did they convince each other to put the right people through?
For the next act, two guys showed off some interesting karate moves in their dojo performance. Even though Heidi and Mel B didn’t see the comedy or talent in the performance, Howie and Howard didn’t stop laughing. Only receiving two yeses, Howard used his golden buzzer to save the two. Woah Howard, that’s early in the game!
We also wowed by the unique performance by Blue Journey! A projection board played different scenes behind the two dancers, as they performed an incredible, dream-like routine for the crowd to go along with it.
The next guy up on stage had us fooled! “Larry The Mime” quickly received four X’s across the board. But it ended up being the biggest shocker of the whole show — Nick Cannon was hidden under all the black and white face paint and had the whole place tricked!
What a perfect way to end a season premiere — almost. Last but not least, singer Jaycob Curlee told his dream, “I would love to win America’s Got Talent.” Well Jaycob, your talents wowed America so you’re on your way! He made it through!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the premiere? Do you think that Howard should have used his golden buzzer so early in the competition? Let us know if you’re looking forward to Season 9!
