On the May 20 episode of ‘The Little Couple,’ Bill heads to Florida with his mother-in-law, Judy, to visit the Pet Expo. Jen stays behind so she can finally return to work and try to spend quality time with her kids, Will and Zoey.
Dr. Jennifer Arnold is ready to go back to work! After her first full day at Texas Children’s Hospital, Jen then spends plenty of one-on-one time with Zoey, 2, and Will, 4, while husband, Bill Klein travels down to Florida with Judy to buy supplies for the pet store.
‘The Little Couple’ — Bill & Judy Take Off For Florida
At the beginning of the episode, Bill and Judy plan to travel to a pet expo in Florida without the rest of the family.
That leaves Jen all alone with Will, Zoey ,and Judy’s three dogs for the first time since she was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, it was only for one night!
For those of you that don’t know, Judy serves double duty as Bill’s mother-in-law and store manager.
Bill says, “Traveling with Judy is very different from working with Judy because from the time we get in the car to the time we get out of the airport she’s strictly mother-in-law.”
Once Bill & Judy arrived at the pet expo it was clear that Judy was in charge, and knew that the regular’s at their store are only interested in pink items, unlike the dog jerseys that Bill was quick to notice and admire.
Judy admitted, “Bill and I have really different ideas on things to purchase. He has one view, and I have another view and we clash heads a lot.”
That was certainly clear! Bill was of course very patient and sweet with Judy since she is the manager of the store and keeps track of what the customers are interested in.
Later that night, Bill was able to meet up with his two younger brothers, Tommy and Joe, for dinner and drinks. The guys had a very typical boys night where they looked back at how far they had come since their bachelor party days.
Now, all three are married with children — quite different lives!
Jen Juggles Full Time Work With Quality Time
Jen had her first full day back at work, and then came home to spend time with Will, Zoey, their dogs Rocky and Maggie and her parent’s three dogs who were also staying at the house while Bill and Judy were away — quite a hand full!
Jen said,” Now that I’m done with chemotherapy and back to work, I think I’m a little nervous about bonding with the kids because going back to work, I’m scared that they will be upset about it or forget about me.”
We can’t imagine anyone forgetting about Jen!
In true Jen fashion, she had the perfect idea of how to keep the kids attention and spend quality time with them — by setting up a camping tent inside and having a sleepover!
At first Will and Zoey did’t get the idea that they were supposed to go inside of the tent, but once Jen handed them each a colorful flashlight, their interest in the bonding time was restored and they were able to have plenty of mommy and me time.
Bill Returns Home To A Sweet Surprise
Of course everyone missed Baba, so Jen thought that it was appropriate to make him a welcome home sign. Things got a little messy when Will decided to take off the glue cap, but Jen was of course prepared for the spill and the sign turned out to be adorable.
Jen said,” For sure toddlers can be messy, and I’m a relatively neat freak. I don’t want to stifle my kids and have them feel like they always have to be neat and clean, so I think it’s more of me getting comfortable in my own skin as a parent, wanting my kids to feel free to make messes and have fun, but without it being out of control or completely driving me crazy.”
If anyone can achieve that perfect balance, I know it will be Jen. She is already such a great parent and really has a lot of energy to master working a full day and then come home and want to spend time and do activities with Will and Zoey!
What do you think, HollyMoms? Was Jen in over her head? Was it to soon for Jen to be left alone with the kids?
