Barbara Walters Celebrates Her Final Episode On ‘The View’
Barbara Walters has been a staple in American media for decades. The legendary anchor was a pioneer for women on television, and changed the course of TV when she brought together a panel of ladies and created The View in 1997.
17 seasons later, The View is still thriving with its current cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, but on Friday, May 16, the ladies said goodbye to Barb!
“We have to get the party started,” said Whoopi Goldberg at the start of the “jam-packed” episode, making sure to mention that a ton of surprise guests are coming.
Celebrities Say Goodbye To Barbara Walters — Hillary Clinton, Oprah & More
Whoopi wasn’t kidding — Hillary Clinton was the first person to walk out!
“I can’t believe this day has come, and I can’t believe it’s for real,” said Hillary Clinton who sat in the middle of the panel. “I don’t know what we’re all going to do.”
The next surprise guest was Michael Douglas who wished his good friend goodbye, and also talked about his relationship with Catherine Zeta-Jones, which he says is going great now.
Oprah surprised Barbara next, and she was shocked! “I had to be here today, Barbara,” said Oprah.”The truth is, there are so many things I want to say, but there just isn’t enough time to say them all. Like everyone else, I want to thank you for being a pioneer.”
Oprah thanked Barbara for her courage, and said that she is here because of her. And then she told her to take a rest! (We agree — well deserved, Barbara.)
Oprah then really surprised Barbara by welcoming 25 female journalists who came to bid adieu, but most importantly, thank Barbara for making their careers possible. Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Katie Couric, Lara Spencer, Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie were among the successful slew of ladies!
Barbara will continue to serve as an executive producer on the series, but we will miss watching her every morning on The View! Will you?
