‘True Tori’ might just be the most dramatic show we’ve ever seen. In the same episode, Dean admits that he wants out of his marriage and also promises to be the best husband for the rest of Tori’s life. And don’t forget about the tears and screaming!
Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling are really trying to fix their marriage. In the May 13 episode of True Tori, the couple makes strides toward a happier relationship, but Tori still isn’t anywhere near forgiving Dean who contemplates leaving the family again!
Tori & Dean Sit In Therapy & Dean Revisits Suicidal Thoughts
Tonight’s heart-wrenching episode starts off right where last week’s bender ended: in couple’s therapy where Dean seemed to be at his breaking point, after realizing that he was in the midst of an affair, while Tori was with the kids at a Christmas party. At this point in the show, Dean has been home from treatment for six days.
Tori is extremely sympathetic for Dean, saying that he’s not okay. She’s worried that he’ll hurt himself. When Tori originally confronted Dean for his cheating, he became suicidal. The scene got so heated that producers of the shows pulled aside the therapist to make sure that Dean was okay to continue filming.
Tori begins to regret filming her life for the show. “What I didn’t anticipate happening was how Dean would react and how his story would unfold…I don’t know if our marriage can handle this.”
Dean assures Tori that he’s just fine, and she should not deflect her thoughts.
“I’m scared for his life,” Tori says. “I’m not going to put his life at stake.”
Ultimately, Tori decides that she needs to continue telling Dean all of her truthful thoughts because it’s the only way they can improve their relationship.
Dean Gets A Job Offer & Considers Leaving The Family
Dean, the host of Chopped Canada, found out that his show was renewed. In order to take the job, he would have to move back to Canada.
“This is like a relationship ender,” Tori said about Dean leaving his family for the job. “I don’t know how he can even think about going right now.”
Dean says that he never imagined the network would take him back so he never brought up the option of moving away. “I’m a liar, I’m a cheater, and I have a drug and alcohol problem,” he explains.
Tori gets extremely angry and the two get in their first heated fight of the episode. What is more important — their family or Dean’s career?
“If he goes, I’m going to resent him,” says Tori. “How could you not?”
The Couple Screams At Each Other: Dean Reveals He Wants Out Of Their Marriage
Unfortunately, the fight over Chopped Canada was not the couple’s last of the episode. Tori and Dean get into another fight over parenting responsibilities, and the yelling gets volatile. “Keep your voice down!” Tori screams. “The babies are sleeping! Keep your voice down! Talk to me like a human. Stop shouting at me!”
Tori criticizes Dean for “barking” at her and she points her finger like it’s her job. “What the f*ck do you want from me?” Dean asks, before he storms out of the house. Tori asks a producer to follow him outside. She doesn’t feel comfortable with him leaving by himself.
“I don’t think I want to be in this marriage anymore,” Dean reveals to the producer.
Couples Therapy Part Two
Tori and Dean sit back in couple’s therapy, and Tori reveals her fears. She is concerned that if Dean goes back to Toronto to take his job, he will fall back into his old ways of cheating, lying, drug and alcohol use. She doesn’t want to prohibit him from progressing in his career, but she says that she will “live in fear” if he’s away.
Dean says that he’ll call his manager to cancel the gig, but Tori doesn’t believe it’s sincere, and they argue again with Dean insisting that Tori is strong, and she shouldn’t live in fear. “You’re stronger than ten men,” says Dean, to which the therapist responds, “except that she’s not.”
Tori concludes that she wants Dean to nurture her “like a baby” like he did at the beginning of her relationship. But she realizes, she may not be able to get everything that she desires.
Dean Tries To Improve & Impress Tori
Dean goes to a framing store to get a very thoughtful gift for Tori. He’s framing a world map, notating places that are important to him and Tori. Including Toronto. Awkward.
“I did something very, very unforgivable, and I’m just trying to do nice things for my wife,” Dean tells the store clerk.
He also goes to the pet store and buys two bearded dragons for the kids. He surprises the children with the lizards in a cute moment where he proves that he cares about being a good father.
“Dean knows how important animals are to me,” says Tori, admitting that he did a really nice thing. “Good job on adopting the bearded dragons…it made us happy…thanks for doing that.”
For the first time all season, we see Tori and Dean share a sweet moment.
The couple goes to Reiki therapy together, which is a method of spiritual healing. Afterword, Dean cooks a homemade sushi dinner to surprise Tori, while the kids are in bed.
“I just thought I’d do a little dinner, a little gesture, just to make her feel special,” says Dean. “I plan on giving her what she needs and what she deserves.”
Tori says that this is the first time that she has shared “adult time” with Dean, since his treatment, but she’s still mad and angry and resentful for Dean’s huge mistakes. Tori questions if Dean is doing all of these nice things because she said she wants to be “nurtured” during therapy. Dean said he just wants to pamper her…by getting her massage oil, which ends up being a personal lubricant. Oops! It’s the thought that counts?
Tori And Dean Make Strides Toward Making Things Work…Almost
Dean then gives Tori his big gift: the map of all of the important places they’ve been together in the world. “Thank you for this. I think it’s really sweet,” Tori says, adding that she hopes that moments like these won’t stop. “I really want to change,” Dean says. “I want to grow up…I don’t want to be a checked-out dad, a checked-out husband.”
Dean says that he loves Tori so much, and that he owes her a lifetime worth of apologies. “You humiliated me…in front of the world,” Tori cries to Dean. He promises that he owes being the best husband, and then some.
Tori weeps that her heart can’t take it anymore, and Dean promises to improve and be the best he can be.
And then, next week’s teaser comes along, and the couple is screaming at each other once again. Until next week!
