The penultimate episode of ‘The Originals’ took everything we thought we knew and threw it out the window. Blood was spilled and new alliances came to light. Read on for all the details on the crazy episode.
The May 6 episode of The Originals was the definition of a game-changer. The season had been building up to the war between the supernaturals and the birth of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) baby. In the episode, the midnight spell was enacted, Cami (Leah Pipes) discovered a shocking secret, and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Klaus finally engaged in battle. Let’s head to New Orleans!
‘The Originals’ Recap: War Comes To New Orleans
Jackson (Nathan Parsons) and Oliver (Chase Coleman) were driving and stopped by the cops. Jackson thought there was nothing to worry about because they didn’t do anything. However, the cops were compelled by Marcel and Jackson and Oliver had to do what he said or things were going to get nasty!
Josh (Steven Krueger) was super happy about his daylight ring, but Davina (Danielle Campbell) was particularly gloomy. Davina wanted Josh to leave town now that he had a daylight ring. Josh thought that was preposterous. Davina was not only dealing with Klaus, but Mikael (Sebastian Roché) as well. Davina made Josh promise to get the heck out of dodge if things got complicated.
For those who were wondering, Genevieve (Elyse Levesque) is alive! She was busy working with Klaus on the midnight ring for Hayley. Klaus wanted her to make more than one, which wasn’t initially part of the deal. She told him that just because she was sleeping with him, it didn’t make her his lap dog. In reply, Klaus said that because she was sleeping with him, he would protect her from those who wanted to hurt her. He offered the entire grimoire in exchange for more rings and her loyalty to him.
While Cami was working on figuring out the symbols she discovered inside the box at Sean’s burial site, Francesca (Peta Sergeant) stopped by and wanted Father Kieran’s (Todd Stashwick) key. She claimed the key was hers and gave Cami until tomorrow to find it. Cami went to search for the meaning behind the symbols and found an old place of Father Kieran’s. She found a secret room with years worth of research and one special box labeled “For Cami.”
‘The Originals’ Recap: Boom Goes The Dynamite
Marcel kidnapped Jackson and Oliver and had Diego (Eka Darville) beat information out of them. Marcel wanted to know what they were up to with Klaus. Diego threatened Oliver with a blowtorch, but Jackson stopped him before he could do any damage. If they let Oliver go, Jackson would tell them about the stones and Klaus.
Elijah (Daniel Gillies) called Klaus about Jackson and Oliver, but Klaus already knew Marcel had taken them. He had discovered Marcel had received a cloaking spell from Davina and he was going to use Josh as leverage against Davina for helping Marcel. Klaus gave Josh a nasty hybrid bite to ensure her compliance. He agreed to cure him if Davina revealed where Marcel was. She told him, but Klaus left Josh dying in order to make sure Davina wouldn’t try something.
Elijah and Klaus went off in search of Jackson, leaving Hayley worried. She felt completely useless being pregnant. Genevieve was pretty envious of having both Elijah and Klaus run all over town for Hayley. The brothers found Jackson, but Marcel didn’t make it easy for his rescue. He triggered the entire warehouse with dynamite. While trying to find a way out, Klaus came upon a note from Marcel that read, “This is for Thiery.” Suddenly, BOOM! The entire warehouse exploded with Elijah, Klaus and Jackson inside!
Thankfully, Elijah had thrust Jackson to safety before the explosion consumed them. Klaus didn’t really care about Jackson, he was more concerned about the stones Jackson had basically given over to Marcel. As always, Klaus had a backup plan. He met up with Francesca, who wanted to be on the winning side in the war between Klaus and Marcel. She gave him more stones for the spell, pledging her allegiance to the “ruling class.” However, she was worried Marcel would come after her, so she wanted to combine her army with Klaus’s.
Jackson headed back to the bayou and thanked Elijah for saving him. Hayley finally admitted to Elijah about her betrothal to Jackson. Elijah said he understood the need to make sacrifices for one’s family, but Hayley didn’t want to hear that. She didn’t want to hear noble Elijah, she wanted to hear the Elijah that was in love with her. No words were needed, just a sweet kiss between Elijah and Hayley. “You will always have a choice,” Elijah told her. (Swoon.)
‘The Originals’ Recap: Let’s Fight
To continue on with the spell, Genevieve needed the blood of a werewolf who didn’t turn on a full moon. She preferred Hayley, but Klaus denied that request. Klaus offered his blood in exchange. He also added that if Genevieve failed to uphold her end of the deal, the results would be “apocalyptic.”
Marcel prepped his army for battle against Klaus and his pact with the werewolves. If they didn’t stand against Klaus now, they were better off dead. He told his army they were going to go to the compound and kill Klaus’s witch and grab the grimoire. He anticipated Klaus coming after him, so he agreed to take care of him. All his army had to do was get passed Elijah. (That was easier said than done.)
While Genevieve continued the spell, Francesca barged in and said Marcel was on the move. Klaus wanted Elijah to get Hayley to safety, but feisty Hayley wanted to stick with Genevieve. Francesca agreed to stay with both of them while Klaus and Elijah dealt with Marcel. Marcel’s army arrived and he gave the Originals brothers one last chance to leave town. Marcel wanted his city back. Klaus went after Marcel and left Elijah to deal with the rest of Marcel’s clan. Elijah gladly welcomed the challenge. Marcel and Klaus fought in the streets and Klaus accused him of bombing the bayou. Marcel said he would never hurt Hayley. “I’m not a monster, Klaus,” he said. “I’m not you.”
Both Klaus and Marcel’s plan were about to get one mind-blowing shock. Cami discovered in Kieran’s files that Francesca’s family descended from werewolves! She wasn’t human after all! Cami tried to call Hayley, but she ignored it. Genevieve finished the spell and handed the stones over over to Francesca. Hayley was dumbfounded at this revelation. Francesca was ready to take back the town and Genevieve put a spell on Hayley to make sure she didn’t go anywhere. (Boy, Genevieve is in trouble.)
Marcel and Klaus continued to punch the daylights out of each other. Being the strongest vampire in the world, Klaus was winning the fight and bit Marcel. Meanwhile, Cami was trying to tell everyone about Francesca, but no one was listening. Francesca told her brothers it was their time to shine and they just started killing people. However, with every kill, Klaus was weakened. (What?!)
‘The Originals’ Recap: Every Revolution Has A Sacrifice
Elijah easily took care of Marcel’s army at the compound, but wasn’t victorious for long. Francesca’s brothers came in and went for Elijah’s neck. Francesca wanted to kill as many vampires as possible.
Klaus was reeling from the side effects from the spell and Genevieve was there to watch his power dwindle. She told him that Francesca’s clan of werewolves would be drawing their power from him. As a woman desperate for love, Genevieve didn’t believe Klaus ever cared about her. She sided with Francesca, who held up her end of the deal. Klaus vowed to kill her.
Davina was furious with Klaus for not coming to save Josh and hated watching her friend die. Mikael appeared and said there was no doubt that Josh would die. He agreed to help Josh if Davina raised him from the dead!
Francesca was waiting for Oliver at the bayou. She confirmed the deal was done. Oliver was angry at all the casualties. Francesca told him not to worry because they had the one thing that would inspire loyalty between the Crescents and the Guerreras: The midnight stones. The wolves were making plays to take over the city again. Francesca had agreed to give Hayley over to the witches as part of the deal.
Marcel came to the compound and found his army dying. Cami arrived and Elijah wanted to know where Hayley was. He lunged for Marcel, but Cami assured him that Marcel didn’t have anything to do with Hayley’s disappearance.
Genevieve, Monique and the rest of the witches had taken Hayley to the church kicking and screaming. Apparently, the witches were going to use the baby as a sacrifice to be reborn! Hayley was now in labor and things weren’t looking good. Klaus heard her screams and he started screaming for vengeance. (Watch out, everyone.)
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of tonight’s The Originals? Can you believe Francesca is actually a werewolf? What is Klaus’s next move? Will Hayley and the baby survive? Let us know your thoughts!
