It’s Week 8 of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and the competition is getting tighter than ever — and Meryl and Maks’ relationship is getting hotter than ever!
For the week before semifinals, DWTS is kicking off their first-ever celebrity dance duels, where two couples begin the dance together and then the pros leave as the celebrities dance with each other. As you might imagine, Maks does not love change. He does, however, seem to — at the very least — like like Meryl, about whom he had something super sweet to say. Read on to find out what it was and for our full recap!
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Maks Wants To ‘Try To Maintain’ Their Relationship Once The Show Wraps
1. Charlie White & Sharna Burgess
Charlie didn’t perform so well in the last episode, so it was important for the pair to do well in their quick step tonight. They danced to the upbeat “My Heart Goes Boom” and looked like they were having a lot of fun. It totally paid off, since they received perfect 10s! We can’t overstate this — Abby Lee gave a score of 10 at the top of the show. 40 out of 40!
Danica and Val are in jeopardy! And now they must dance.
2. Danica McKelar & Valentin Chmerkovskiy
These two danced a suuuper dramatic tango to Lorde‘s “Everybody Rules The World” — it was as dark and gothic as Lorde herself! It was a gorgeous performance — and let’s not forget that Danica is totally working with a broken rib! The judges were enthusiastic about their performance — here’s hoping it will keep them from being eliminated! 38 out of 40.
“I’m not gonna impose my friendship on anyone, but with Meryl, I think it’s pretty clear that we’re going to try to maintain whatever it is we have going on way past the show,” Maks told cameras during the rehearsal segment. You guys. These two have got to be doin’ it. Sources have told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Meryl and Maks “only talk with each other at the show and are really touchy and flirty.” Maks “is always talking about her great body and has his hands all over her, even when the cameras are off,” our source added.
3. Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
If these two were trying to stave off the rumors that they’re dating, they didn’t do a particularly good job. Their dance was a super romantic Rumba, but the judges weren’t too enthused about their technique — Abby Lee especially. Erin Andrews asked Maks what he thought about the judging, and he said that he doesn’t care what she has to say. Probably should have waited for her score before he said that? She gave them an 8. Oops. Anyway, they still managed a 36 out of 40!
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Amy Purdy Receives A Perfect Score After Last Week’s Injury
4. Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas
Their foxtrot had them dancing on a couch in front of the TV for about 20 percent of the dance. That’s cool, that’s how I do all of my dancing, too. Anyway, their dance was “bright and fun and frivolous,” according to Len Goodman — we agree! The judges gave them a 36 out of 40.
5. James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd
Another rumored couple, James and Peta, really needed to up their game for this week. Last week, they received a 35, which is really not a bad score, but the judges basically put them on watch. They danced a romantic Viennese waltz, but the judges were still not totally thrilled with James’ technique — his posture and his legs are not all there. But he’s sooo handsome, right? So who cares, really? They receive a score of 36 out of 40.
6. Amy Purdy & Derek Hough
After Amy’s insane injury from last week where she was rushed to medical care — one of her ribs keeps popping out — she was intent on doing the best she could under the circumstances. They danced a super interesting Argentine tango which had Amy propped on a stool for much of it, but it somehow worked! We kinda thought we saw them biff the routine a bit, but maybe our eyes are playing tricks on us, because the judges awarded them a perfect 40 out of 40.
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Celebrity Dance Duels; Maks Doesn’t Like To Share
7. Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Danica McKelar & Valentin Chmerkovskiy
In the first ever celebrity dance duel of the night, the Chermovskiys danced — and fought — together. Their rehearsal segment was intensely uncomfortable, since Maks, predictably, doesn’t play well with others — he didn’t enjoy sharing studio space with Danica, it seemed. The judges weren’t too thrilled with their samba to Jennifer Lopez‘s “I Luh Ya Papi,” and they received a 34 out of 40.
8. Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas, Charlie White & Sharna Burgess
This foursome with with a much lower level of drama totally brought it with a contemporary dance to Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me.” As the judges noted, all of their dancing styles are super different but complemented each other really well. they received a 38 out of 40!
9. James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd, Amy Purdy & Derek Hough
There was a lot of anxiety from these four during rehearsals — Amy needs a lot more support from her partner than James may be used to. And he wasn’t, since he rolled his ankle, or did something wonky during rehearsal, and dropped her on her butt. However, they clearly worked incredibly hard, and their jive was totally amazing! They had a lot of fun, and the judges loved it. 39 out of 40!
Elimination time! Danica and Val are out.
“I didn’t want to see any of them eliminated, so I guess it works out,” Danica said, ever cheerful. We’re calling lies on that one — nobody can be that kindhearted!
