It was Latin night on April 28 on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ as Ricky Martin performed and was a guest judge. See who came out on top, who was eliminated, and why contestant Amy Purdy was sent to the hospital below.
Season 18 of Dancing With The Stars is getting more and more intense. After a sexy performance by Ricky Martin to kick off the show, the stars each danced an individual dance and then a team dance. Injuries were rampant in the ballroom — with Amy Purdy suffering a mid-show injury. Read about the dramatic show below — warning: SPOILERS ahead.
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Latin Night — Spicing Up The Ballroom
Battling a broken rib, Danica was named safe right off the bat with partner Val. Then, James and Peta were told they were in jeopardy — huh?! Amy and Derek were named safe and were first to dance.
Amy Purdy danced the rumba, the dance of love, with partner Derek Hough. “It was sharp..and then smooth and rhythmic. First out, first class,” head judge Len Goodman said. “To me, you’re Wonder Woman. You are fantastic,” Carrie Ann Inaba raved. Guest judge Ricky Martin said the couple had him feeling a lot of feelings! They got a 36 out of 40. More on this couple later…
James Maslow danced a sexy samba (watch it here!) with partner Peta Murgatroyd. When asked if they were dating by the producers, shy Peta just said she looks forward to coming to work every day to see James. Awww. “That was filthy, that was dirty, I loved it,” an excited Bruno Tonioli said. “My head is spinning. Peta and James — your chemistry is beyond sick,” Carrie Ann said. Ricky said their performance was “surprise after surprise, wow after wow, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.” Len criticized James’ footwork. They got a 35 out of 40.
Danica McKellar fractured a rib while practicing her salsa dance with Val Chmerkovskiy. “I think you managed well but because of your injury, I think it stifled the movement,” Carrie Ann said. “You guys have amazing chemistry,” Ricky said. Len said overall it was well done. They got a 33 out of 40.
Another Injury Rocks The Ballroom
A scary moment happened when hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews said Amy injured her back while performing and she was being looked at by doctors. Later, Amy said she cracked her back by turning wrong after her dance and was preparing to go to the hospital. Since she would be missing the team dance, the judges would score the dress rehearsal for the team dance, which was taped earlier in the day.
Then, Charlie and Sharna and Tony and NeNe were told they were in jeopardy of being sent home. Candace and Mark and Meryl and Maks were announced as safe.
NeNe Leakes danced the Argentine Tango with Tony Dovolani (who was shirtless thanks to a Twitter vote)! Ricky appreciated that she got into such a character. “You need to work on technique but, as always, fun to watch,” Len said. “The movements weren’t sharp enough but I’m impressed with how far you’ve come in this competition,” Carrie Ann said. They got a 31 out of 40.
Next, after getting some advice from Olympic partner Meryl, Charlie White danced an intense paso doble with pro Sharna Burgess. “To get a 10, you have to do something special, and to me, this wasn’t special,” Len said. “It had flair, it had purpose, it had power, but you messed it up. On the knee spin, you lost balance. You missed a bit of steadiness,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann said he needs more sharpness. Ricky admired the passion and connection. They got a 36 out of 40, and Charlie looked visably upset.
Candace Cameron Bure Tries To Overcome Her Anxiety
After seeing a sports physiologist to work on her nerves, Candace Cameron Bure danced the Argentine Tango with Mark Ballas. Bruno complimented her dance and her legs! “The confidence is there — good job!” Carrie Ann said. Ricky said it was “clean and suburb.” Len said it was hot! They got a 35 out of 40.
Last week’s leader (again!) Meryl Davis danced the salsa with Maks Chmerkovskiy. “Meryl, you blow me away! You continually surprise me! I had no idea this was your element!” Carrie Ann said. Ricky was at a loss for words, but said it was amazing. “I thought it got too involved with the whole production. It was a bit hectic,” Len said. “You were dancing with six of the best professionals in the country and you always pull focus and attention,” Bruno said. They got a 39 out of 40, with a 9 from Len keeping them from getting another perfect score.
The Team Dances
Team Vida was Charlie and Sharna, James and Peta, and NeNe and Tony — all of whom were in jeopardy. They danced a latin freestyle. “That was complicated and you made it look like a walk in the park,” Ricky said. “You were together, it was tight. Lots of action, well done to all of you,” Len said. Bruno said it was like an extra large tequila! “The energy was fantastic,” Carrie Ann said, but commented that they lost some synchronicity. They got a 35 out of 40.
Team Loca was Candace and Mark, Val and Danica, Maks and Meryl and Amy and Derek. Since Amy was injured earlier in the show, the judges watched the dress rehearsal performance of the team dance. “That was insane. I’ve never seen a tighter group performance ever!” Carrie Ann said. “Mad respect. You guys were outstanding,” Ricky said. “What I saw on that screen was fantastic,” Len said. Bruno said it was “slick, spectacular, showstopper. I really regret we don’t have a results show because this is worth a repeat performance.” They got a 39/40!
NeNe Leakes Eliminated From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ — Housewife Sent Home
Unfortunately, NeNe and Tony were eliminated.
Next week, the stars pair up with each other to “highlight their strengths and expose their weaknesses.”
Who had the best dance of the night, HollywoodLifers? Do you think it was right that NeNe was voted off?
