Cristina Yang, portrayed by the brilliant Sandra Oh, found out the shocking truth about how and why she lost the Harper-Avery Award on the April 24 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Now, we’ve compiled all of the reasons Cristina deserved that award — and why she should fight for it.
I don’t know about you, but I am still not over the shocking truth behind Cristina’s Harper-Avery Award loss.
If Cristina was never eligible to win the award solely because she works for a Harper-Avery owned hospital, then why let her even be nominated in the first place? Plus, isn’t it more scandalous for the Harper-Avery Foundation to deny Cristina the award even after she pulled in all of the votes? Ugh!
Just like Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), I stand behind Cristina. She has been a brilliant doctor and a brilliant surgeon from the very start.
Do you remember when Cristina was conducting heart surgeries on her own, even before she was an attendee? There is a reason for that, despite the fact that it was extremely illegal. The reason? In the land of Grey’s Anatomy, Cristina is the be-all, end-all of heart surgeons. It is her whole reason for existing. She’s chosen surgery over men, true love, friendship, and so much more.
Not to mention, her 3D conduit clinical trials are going to change the world of heart surgery. It is why she was nominated, and it is why she should have won. Or, better yet, it is why the Harper-Avery Foundation should have allowed her to win — especially since she had the votes.
If I ever needed heart surgery, I would call Cristina. At least I would if I lived in the Grey’s world.
We all knew that Cristina was leaving at the end of season ten, but we did not know it would be like this.
Now that Owen (Kevin McKidd) told Cristina the truth about her Harper-Avery loss, she has a lot to consider. If she wants to further her career and become a Harper-Avery award winning doctor, she can’t continue her work at Grey-Sloane.
Not only does she have to leave Grey-Sloane, but she also has to fight for her award. If she doesn’t expose the Harper-Avery Foundation for their fraudulent system, she will never be able to claim the award that she was robbed of.
Also, is that why Burke (Isaiah Washington) is coming back? Burke was one of the greats, and he took Cristina under his wing when she was just a resident. Yes, they fell in love, but if Burke had not believed so strongly in Cristina’s ability, would she still be where she is today?
In the preview, Cristina is giving a speech when Burke ascends into her view and changes everything. Is the speech when Cristina reveals that the Harper-Avery Foundation screwed her over? Is Burke going to stand by her?
It is also pretty obvious in the preview that Burke is there to recruit Cristina. “I want you,” he tells her. “All you have to do is say yes.”
Tell us, HollywoodLifers — What do you think about Cristina’s loss? Do you think she’ll fight for her award? Why do you think Burke is back? Let us know your thoughts below!
