While it may not have necessarily been a surprise to see ‘American Idol’ contestant CJ Harris get eliminated on the April 24 episode, it was definitely sad to see him go — his ex-competitors were even crying for him on the ‘Idol’ stage! Read on for EXCLUSIVE our elimination interview with CJ!
American Idol contestant CJ Harris was continually praised by Harry Connick Jr. for his ability to thoughtfully take in the judges’ criticism and to improve on his singing and his entertaining from week to week. However, he just wasn’t able to keep up with his fellow competitors in the Top 6, getting him eliminated on the April 24 episode. Keep reading to find out what CJ told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about whether he saw his elimination coming, what the queen herself, Jennifer Lopez, had to say to him upon his departure, and what he’ll be doing with his young son once they reunite!
‘American Idol': CJ Harris Elimination Interview
“It did hurt, of course it’s going to hurt anybody at this point when you made it this far. I’m extremely proud. I’m not a guy that just thinks about myself or anything like that. I’m extremely proud of those people that made the top five and I’m just going to keep pushing with my career. I’m going to make the best out of it. I’m definitely not done, I’m going to keep going,” CJ told HollywoodLife.com.
“[Jennifer] told me just that I got a really good soul and I just got to keep chasing my music career, that I’ll be successful as long as I want it.” You can tell that Jennifer definitely cares about each of the finalists — she’s in tears during every elimination! And she’s not that great of an actress.
We noted to CJ that a lot of contestants will say that they can feel when they’re about to get eliminated, and CJ was no exception. “I had a feeling, I did. I mean, I’ve told people and like you said, they’re so right, a lot of people can just feel it, ‘it’s their time, it’s their time.’ I could feel it, I definitely could. It’s just, there was something about the day, something about the way they were messing with my microphone, I could just tell,” he said.
‘American Idol': CJ Harris To Reunite With His Young Son In Alabama
His elimination has a silver lining, however, as it means he’ll get to go back to Jasper, Alabama to reunite with his young son! As for what they’ll do together? “Aw man, he’ll probably just sit on my lap and strum on my lap like he always does. He loves to play guitar and sing and beat on the back of the seat like he’s playing drums. Can’t wait.” So cute! And if he wants to go on American Idol when he grows up? “Yeah, I mean. I’ll let him do whatever he wants — if it’s still on. I don’t even know what it would be then.” Maybe American Idol Jr.? “That would be cool, man. Whatever he wants to do, if he wants to be a musician whatever he wants to do I’m a let him decide that on his own.”
He’s basically the sweetest guy. It’s too bad that he was eliminated but it was definitely time for him to go, we’re sorry to say. All the best to you, CJ, and we’ll see you on the Idol summer tour!
